Portland Community College’s Art, Humanities, Communication and Design (AHCD) Academic and Career Pathway seeks a full-time Instructional Support Technician II (IST II) in Art. This position will support the Art Program at the Sylvania Campus.
The ART IST II position may support any of the following Art areas: Sculpture and Printmaking with secondary support for Art Gallery, Painting, Drawing
The Pathway welcomes students from diverse backgrounds and abilities to study and develop their skills in preparation for a variety of careers and/or transfer to four-year institutions. The IST works directly with students and with faculty, administrative staff, casual staff, student workers and Pathway leadership to enhance our students’ learning experience by ensuring classes and facilities are well supported at the Sylvania campus. They liaise with a variety of stakeholders to perform a full range of support duties. ISTs work independently, responding to a variety of situations. Successful ISTs have the ability to make sound decisions regarding whether they are able to provide appropriate support or seek assistance from faculty, the Faculty Department Chair, administrative assistant or the Arts and Design Program Dean. The scope of this may include providing ongoing studio support, supporting student success in the studios, onboarding casual studio workers, and developing studio schedules.

Nature and Scope of Work
Supports studio art classes under the technical direction of one or more members of the faculty or an instructional administrator, prepares multiple art studios and/or classrooms following specified instructions. Assists with the equipment, modules, and projects that will be used in the studios or classrooms to assist the instructor in the delivery of desired instructional outcomes. Work is performed relatively independently, subject to supervisory review and direction. The IST II may provide work direction to work-study, student helpers, and casual employees and coordinate their activities.

- . Knowledge of art studio media and safety practices (oily rags, what can/can't go down the sink drain, proper disposal of hazardous materials etc.
- ) Proficient with maintenance and minor repairs to studio art equipment such as easels, drawing horses, work tables, wood shop power tools, lighting equipment etc
- . Strong problem-solving skills in maintaining art facilities and providing effective support to students with their projects
- . Experience and knowledge of handling and installation of artwork
- . Ability to work evening and weekend hours if needed. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey information to diverse audiences

Minimum Qualifications
To be considered, your application must demonstrate these minimum qualifications. (Experience is calculated based on the start and end dates you provide multiplied by the number of hours per week worked).
High school diploma or equivalent and two years of post-secondary education in sculpture and/or printmaking appropriate to instructional support.- Two years of experience supporting studio art activities in sculpture and/or printmaking are required; relevant experience may substitute for the post-secondary education requirement on a year-for-year basis
- . Must possess technical expertise in woodworking, metalworking, and both intaglio and relief printmaking techniques. Includes a solid understanding of safe handling and disposal of hazardous materials, as well as the maintenance and repair of related equipment.
