Position Summary:
The Passenger Van Driver at the Portland Museum of Art (PMA) primarily facilitates visitor access between the PMA galleries and the Winslow Homer Studio at Prout’s Neck, Scarborough. Additionally, the driver provides shuttle services for special programs and events as needed. This position enhances visitors’ experiences by providing safe and timely transportation, contributing to the educational engagement of visitors with the PMA's exhibitions and events.
This is a seasonal, part-time position.
Job Functions:
- Visitor Transportation
- Safely transports visitors between designated locations.
- Maintains strict adherence to scheduled routes and timings.
- Complies with all traffic laws, safety regulations, and policies governing public transportation to ensure passenger and road safety.
- Visitor Experience
- Provides courteous and informative interactions with all passengers.
- Assists visitors with mobility challenges in boarding and disembarking.
- Offers insights and information about local areas, the PMA's history, and points of interest along the route.
- Safety and Vehicle Maintenance
- Performs daily safety and operations inspections.
- Documents and reports any vehicle issues, incidents, or maintenance needs promptly.
- Ensures vehicle maintenance and cleanliness to provide a safe and comfortable experience for passengers.
- Scheduling and Availability
- Commits to the Winslow Homer Studio Tour seasonal schedule from May through November.
- Interdepartmental Collaboration
- Collaborates on special projects, as needed.
- Supports logistics for events and programs requiring shuttle transportation.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
None.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- 3-5 years of professional driving experience.
- A combination of related education, certifications, and experience may be considered.
- Experience in shuttle or passenger transport services, preferred.
- Knowledge of local cultural sites and historical significance, preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to enhance visitor experience, preferred.

Other Requirements:
- Successfully pass a background check and any required pre-employment screenings.
- Valid State of Maine Class C driver’s license.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed to support programs and events.
- Frequent travel to the Winslow Homer Studio at Prout’s Neck as well as regional travel support programs and events.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
Work Environment: In a vehicle setting with frequent driving and periods of waiting.
Physical Demands: Extensive driving and sitting; standing and walking; clear verbal communication; occasional lifting up to 40 lbs.
Exposures: Fluctuating noise levels; large crowds; outdoor exposure; weather conditions; and traffic.
