POSITION SUMMARY :
This position works with Pre-K students, families, staff and community organizations to ensure Pre-K studentsreceive services aligned with supporting student success with a focus on strengths and collaboration.The position also provides consultation to school teams, families and community members in order tosupport Pre-K students and families who are experiencing stress due to social, emotional, mental health or other family challenges. Utilizing leadership, advocacy, and collaboration, this position will focus on systemsnavigation, and systems change. This position works centrally out ofthe Early Learners Department.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Provide consultation to school teams and families to develop strategies and competencies, andprovide community resources for Pre-K students and families in crisis, including building resiliency, social-emotional skills and supporting mental health needs.
- Provide consultation and support to school staff in supporting Pre-K students with complex mental healthneeds by effective program management, needs assessment, goal setting, plan formulation andprogram evaluation strategies with a specific focus on culturally responsive and student centeredsupports.
- Support Early Learners staff, Pre-K students, families and other stakeholders in support of gender inclusive school practices
- Build upon partnerships with community based organizations and agencies, state and countyagencies, grant holders and other PPS to develop and enhance policies,procedures and curriculum for the district to become better prepared to respond to the mentalhealth needs of historically underserved and high risk student populations.
- Facilitate Professional program wide developmentto increase staff efficacy when working with highrisk Pre-K students who experiencemental health, emotional or socialneeds. Provideschools, district staff, and identified professional groups with a planned and sequential professionaldevelopment program that supports Pre-K Student development.
- Analyze, distribute and support collection of data regarding the mentalhealth and wellbeing of all Pre-K students, in particular historically underserved students, and Pre-K Students of Color, in compliance with all national, state, and local regulations guiding theprivacy of student data.
- Demonstrate a commitment to the Portland Public Schools Racial Equity and Social Justice Commitment by developing a thorough knowledge and application of the district Racial Educational Equity Policy, the PPS RESJ Framework and Plan, and the PPS RESJ Partnerships Investment Strategy and other board policies; participate in staff development, in-services and trainings related to diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace and in PK 12 education; model appropriate behaviors; develop, recommend and implement improvements to educational practices with awareness and understanding of their impact in a racially and culturally diverse community.
