Position Summary
Brief Description of PSU/School/Dept
The Veterans Resource Center is part of the Enrollment Management and Student Affairs division, here to connect Student Veterans, Service Members and their families with a variety of services specific to their individual needs, support the transition “from rucksack to backpack,” and to help them to connect with one another. The VRC also provides service to PSU Faculty and Administrators who seek to better understand the unique cultural differences found in the Student Veteran Community and how to better serve them.
Position Summary
The Veterans Resource Center Coordinator supports the work of the Director to elevate and support Veteran-students through advocacy and sound management of the PSU Veterans Resource Center.
Specific responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

- Manages the Veteran Affairs (VA) work-study program, including day-to-day management, hiring, scheduling, maintaining compliance with VA requirements, conducting payroll, and managing audits, while operating within the framework of existing federal, state and PSU employment policies.
- Maintains knowledge of current Veteran Affairs educational benefits and is able to research specific, unique solutions within that framework.
- Manages procurement, budget activity and accounting for the VRC in accordance with Student Fee Committee (SFC) guidelines. In addition, will assist the Director in the solicitation and management of PSU foundation and external grant funds.
- Acts as an institutional liaison to coordinate with internal and community Veteran support partners to support the holistic needs of a diverse student Veteran population. Supports development and maintains compliance with interagency agreements.
- Anticipates problems, provide solutions, and create process improvement plans to better serve Veteran students.
- Supports the delivery of Veteran and military-affiliated advocacy training for PSU faculty, staff, and students.
- Takes ownership of the Veteran students’ experience with PSU and the center, including developing and managing programming and events.
- Utilizes external and internal data sources to develop insights and recommendations to improve student Veteran outcomes.
- Has sound judgment, anticipatory skills, confidentiality, negotiation, problem-solving, and customer service skills.
- Exhibits excellent interpersonal, organizational, and oral and written communication skills.
Minimum Qualifications from Classification
- Three years of office experience which included two years at full performance level and experience generating documents; AND
- Lead work responsibility or coordination of office procedures.
Additional Minimum Qualifications for this Position
- Proficient in MS Office software (Word, Excel), PowerPoint and Google applications.
- Basic accounting skills.
- Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to be self-directed, and demonstrated ability to take initiative.
- Ability to prioritize and multi-task to meet goals and deadlines.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Knowledge of VA resources and programs
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Specific knowledge of various education benefits granted by the US Department of Veteran Affairs.
- Familiar with various veterans resources services in the Portland Metro area.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in a fast-paced environment and work well with a diverse population of people.
- Previous experience working in higher education.
- Previous experience working in Banner.

Total Compensation Range & Benefits Statement
The starting salary rate for this position will be between $19.68 and $22.40 dependent upon qualifications and experience of the candidate, with an excellent benefits package including 95% healthcare; a generous retirement and vacation package; and reduced tuition rates for employee, spouse or dependent at any of the Oregon University System schools.
