Job Description:
In line with the school’s strategic plan and focus on Health and Wellness, Portledge is seeking to hire a dynamic Lower School Physical Education Teacher who is driven to create a classroom environment where student learning is a non-negotiable goal, and passion is evident on a daily basis. This position will contribute in a variety of ways to school life at Portledge School and report to the Lower School Division Head and the Director of Athletics. Responsibilities include teaching Lower School PE across grades Pre-Nursery through 5, participating collegially in Division and Department meetings and initiatives, and taking an active role in the life of the school community.

Staying current with educational research and pedagogy related to classroom instruction and educational trends
Maintaining online Atlas curriculum database for courses taught
Attending a minimum of 4-6 evening/weekend programs that support the community throughout the year

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in PE preferred.
NYS Certification in PE and/or Health Education strongly preferred.
Interest, ability, and availability to coach sports teams for combined grades 5 and 6 during the Fall, Winter, and Spring seasons, some late afternoon and weekend hours may be required.
Strong ability to communicate with multiple constituencies, both in writing and in speech, and comfort working in a collaborative setting.
Organization and attention to detail.
