Portledge School was founded in 1965 and is located on the beautiful North Shore of Long Island. Job Description/Responsibilities:

Portledge School is accepting applications for a full-time teaching assistant for the Lower school for the remainder of 2024- 2025 school year. This position would support the classroom teacher and students and participate in team meetings and planning as appropriate.

Qualifications:

• BA Degree minimum; degree preferred in relevant area(s).

• Teaching certification preferred; required for all elementary teaching positions.

• Ability to walk and stand continuously for extended periods of time.

• Ability to lift up to 30lbs periodically.

• Experience working with elementary age children preferred

• Ability to develop trusting, supportive relationships with students.

• Willingness to supervise students during transitions, lunch, recess, or other school activities as needed.

• Belief in the value of all types of diversity within a school environment, with a special commitment to social justice and equity.

• Desire to nurture the whole child and to support students by attending school events such as art, music, theater, athletics and community functions.

• Familiarity with and ability to use Google docs, drive and slides as both a professional collaboration tool and an integrated instructional tool in the classroom preferred

• Willingness to provide one-on-one and small group support to students, reinforcing lessons and assisting with assignments

• Ability to monitor and support students’ social and emotional well-being

Compensation Range:

$22-$25 per hour
