JOB POSTING: Business Development
Ports of Indiana is seeking individuals to join its statewide Business Development team in multiple roles related to port development, multimodal logistics, maritime shipping, railroad operations, real estate development, foreign-trade zones, container shipping, and economic development. As the organization recently launched an aggressive growth strategy, the new roles will focus on expanding statewide port programs and developing local, national and international business opportunities with special emphasis on the greater Chicago, Louisville, Evansville, and Indianapolis metropolitan areas. Extensive travel may be required, and the roles can be based in one of Ports of Indiana’s four office locations (Indianapolis, Burns Harbor, Jeffersonville, Mount Vernon).
Responsibilities:
- Attract and expand businesses that use Indiana’s ports and generate value to the State of Indiana
- Represent Ports of Indiana at conferences, tradeshows, customer visits, and international trade missions
- Grow cargo shipments moving by barge, ship, rail and truck through Ports of Indiana’s facilities
- Develop multimodal real estate projects that maximize the economic benefits of port land
- Pursue off-port projects that align with Ports of Indiana’s multimodal economic development mission
- Conduct market research to identify trends, opportunities, threats, and target markets for growth
- Develop and execute high-profile presentations for domestic and international audiences
- Build and maintain strong relationships with partners, customers and key stakeholders
- Collaborate with economic development partners in each port community to pursue joint initiatives
- Leverage strategic economic development tools, foreign-trade zones, and bonding to support growth
- Develop and execute business development strategies that align with Ports of Indiana’s mission
Qualifications:
- Accredited degree and extensive training in Business, Marketing, Logistics, Real Estate, or related fields
- Business development experience in transportation, real estate, economic development, or related fields
- Strong knowledge of port development, multimodal logistics, maritime shipping, railroad operations, real estate development, foreign-trade zones, container shipping and/or economic development
- Proven record of successfully developing and implementing business development strategies
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with customers, partners, and stakeholders
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, planning and implementation skills
- Ability to travel and carry out frequent regional, national and international business trips
