Job Summary and Qualifications
Position Objective :
The Coordinators primary responsibility is to coordinate day to day operations of the Ambulance Department. The Coordinator functions within the Emergency Department as a team with the Physicians, Registered Nurses (RN) and Physicians Assistants (PA). The Coordinator will to adhere to the Hospital's Standards of Patient Care to deliver safe, quality patient care in the Inter / Intra-Facility and Emergency Department settings. The Coordinator performs all treatments and procedures within the scope of Coordinator practice and as outlined in the Standards Manual, Protocols, Policies and Procedures and Practice Guidelines. Confirm that EMS shift is caught up on all essential duties, and identify opportunities for Performance Improvement, and Quality Improvement. Be a liaison to leadership, and all entities involved in patient care, and coordination of patient transfers.
Patient Population Served :
This employee is expected to deliver patient care in a manner that is appropriate to patient's age, physical ability, and intellectual development. The Coordinator must demonstrate proficiency in assessment and treatment, and the ability to adapt care to meet the needs of neonatal, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients.
Essential Position Functions
The Coordinator must be able to be carry out the following functions with or without reasonable accommodation :
1. Respond to Ambulance Requests
2. Assessment of Emergency and Non-Emergency Patients to Scope of Care
3. Planning of Care
4. Implementation of Plan
5. Evaluating Plan of Care
6. Accepts patient or room assignments in coordination with and as directed by the charge nurse.
7. Maintains a safe therapeutic environment for patients, families, staff, and corrects hazards promptly. Adheres to hospital safety policy and procedure.
8. Documents all pertinent information on the patient's medical record and patient care report in an accurate, detailed manner adhering to procedures for charting. Completes documentation in a timely manner
9. Participates actively in department meetings; ensuring attendance at a minimum of 50% of scheduled meetings.
10. Supports Department's customer service efforts. Provides service excellence to patients and their families, medical staff, peers, support services and other hospital personnel. Provides immediate and satisfactory problem resolution for valid customer complaints or refers complex customer service problems to the Director of EMS.
11. Demonstrates knowledge of, and support for, hospital Mission and Values Statement, department goals and objectives. Assists in the formation and accomplishment of unit goals and objectives.
12. Develops and maintains professional relationship with physicians, peers, nursing, physician's assistants, patients and their families, and medical support services.
13. Follows the principles of infection control as outlined in the Policy and Procedure Manual.
14. Participates in the department's Performance Improvement program by collaborating with the department's PI representative in developing and implementing effective PI programs.
15. Demonstrates ability to provide care, which meets the physical, psychological and emotional, needs of the pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient.
16. Assumes responsibility for own professional development and on-going education. Attends required hours of continuing professional education per year. Completes mandatory training in a timely manner.
17. Demonstrates a commitment to containing costs and efficient use of material resources.
18. Assists Hospital-wide, when necessary, and responds to all codes as an integral part of the team.
19. Must be able to facilitate and manage the Hospital Decon Team, and be active on the Emergency Preparedness Team
20. Precepts students and ride-alongs as assigned; students will be treated with respect with the goal of assisting the student to meet clinical requirements. Staff is required to complete all evaluation documents and forward any issues to the Director of EMS.
