We are looking for a highly organized and detail-oriented Fleet Shop Supervisor to join our team. The Fleet Shop Supervisor will play a critical role in managing shop operations, coordinating equipment maintenance, and scheduling dispatches for heavy highway construction and bridge rehabilitation projects. The ideal candidate will possess excellent leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills to ensure operational efficiency and support timely project execution
Responsibilities
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Schedule and oversee routine maintenance and emergency repairs for heavy equipment, vehicles, and tools.
- Troubleshoot mechanical and technical issues, ensuring timely resolution to minimize project delays.
- Supervise shop personnel, including mechanics, technicians, and support staff, providing training, performance feedback, and enforcing company safety policies.
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs and ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and environmental standards.
- Monitor and maintain shop tools and inventory, sourcing quality parts and consumables at competitive prices.
- Conduct regular safety training sessions for shop personnel and ensure environmental compliance, including proper disposal of hazardous materials.
- Walk the shop and yard daily to ensure cleanliness and organization.
- Schedule and dispatch equipment, drivers, and personnel to construction sites as needed.
- Track and manage equipment locations and availability using equipment management software.
- Arrange and coordinate low-bed, boom trucks, and hired trucking, including obtaining necessary permits and verifying timesheets and invoices.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for field personnel, project managers, and equipment operators to prioritize and coordinate equipment requirements.
- Onboard and train new drivers on equipment software systems and ensure proper documentation for new trucking and fuel companies.
- Oversee work order creation and closing processes, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Evaluate department procedures and implement improvements to enhance workflow and productivity
- Attend and lead daily roll calls, debriefing meetings, and weekly updates with key stakeholders, including the General Superintendent and field supervisors.
Qualifications
Qualifications/Skills Required:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; degree or certification in automotive or heavy equipment repair preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years in heavy equipment repair and maintenance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role. Dispatch or related experience is highly desirable.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of heavy equipment, diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and regulatory compliance.
- Leadership: Excellent leadership, communication, and team management skills with the ability to train and develop staff.
- Software Proficiency: Experience with maintenance management and equipment tracking software (e.g., B2W), Microsoft Office Suite, and related applications.
- Certifications: Valid driver’s license (CDL Class A preferred), OSHA 30hr Construction (can obtain prior to hire), and ASE or similar technician certifications (preferred).
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, work in all weather conditions, and perform frequent standing, bending, and kneeling.
- Other Requirements: Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and comply with random and reasonable suspicion drug testing.
Reports to: Superintendents while taking daily direction from field supervisors staff.
