JOB SUMMARY:
The Assistant Director of the Clinical Care Department will assist the Director of the Clinical Care Department with the overall management, personnel, and operational functions of the Department. The Assistant Director will administratively supervise other full-time and part-time nurse practitioners (NP) and physician assistants (PA). The Assistant Director will collaborate closely with the Nurse Managers to ensure the successful daily operations of PIHC’s outpatient HIV clinics and PrEP services.
The Assistant Director will provide direct services to patients with the support of registered nurses, medical assistants, phlebotomists, heath educators and case managers. The Assistant Director administratively reports to the Department Director and is clinically supervised by the Medical Director. All clinical staff provide care per Standard Operating Procedures and protocols set by the Medical Director.
Duties and Responsibilities
Administrative Responsibilities (80%)
• Assists the Department Director with the overall management, personnel, and operational functions of the Clinical Care Department
• In the absence of the Department Director, will assume/fulfill the duties of the Director
• Works collaboratively with Nurse Managers to ensure consistency of quality across Centers, and to plan work schedules and staff assignments
• Monitors clinical productivity and performance measures
• Participates in quality improvement activities
• Conducts reviews of patient medical records
• Attends team, agency and community meetings as required
• Assists with updates of clinical standards of care, standard operating procedures, standing orders and protocols
• Assists in interviewing and selecting clinical staff and students
• Manages preceptorship requests and schedules for students
• Assists with Department budget planning as well as the management of expenditures
• Assists Department Director and Nurse Managers in resolving concerns and issues for clinical staff
• Works with Department Director and Nurse Managers to ensure proper education of staff that is necessary to meet quality, safety and competency requirements
• Investigates patient issues and complaints
• Works with Department Director to ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements and established policies and procedures, utilization and clinical/performance standards and measures
• Travels to all PIHC centers on a consistent basis to observe day-to-day operations, supervise assigned staff, and provide overall direction
• Assists with the completion of grant-related reports as needed
• Models excellent customer service to both internal and external clients
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Possesses and demonstrates an understanding of the fundamentals of HIV care and services, and PrEP services.

• Electronic Medical Record system knowledge preferred
• Proficient in word processing, spreadsheet database and presentation software
Minimum Qualifications
• Master’s Degree in Nursing (or higher) or Physician Assistant Degree/Program from accredited college or university
