JOB SUMMARY:


Performs Pharmacists duties and provides pharmacy oversight of pharmacy

technicians as needed at PIHC Pharmacy. Accurately review and interpret medication orders, evaluates profile for medication related errors and seeks clarification when needed, and provide counseling on proper medication usage and potential side effects and interactions to patients as deemed appropriate. Implements and upholds proper pharmacy and general safety procedures and standards. Assists members while providing a high level of patient care and satisfaction. This position will be responsible for ensuring pharmacy compliance with federal rules and regulations as well as upholding the current established practices for our 340B program to ensure accurate processing of prescription claims while maintaining the integrity of our 340B program while staffing. Efficiently performs other professional pharmacy duties including the safe procurement, preparation, labeling, distribution and control of all drugs. Actively supports and participates in pharmacy activities recommended by accreditation agencies and regulatory agencies. Support Leadership with implementation of strategic plans to drive growth and minimize cost.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Duties and Responsibilities


  • Accurately reviews and interprets medication orders; prepares accurate and complete patient profile, reviews profiles for correct drug, dosage and route of administration, evaluates for drug duplication, drug-drug interaction, contraindications to any medication prescribed
  • Performs or oversees the performance of measuring, compounding and storing of medications used in patient care and the safe procurement, preparation, labeling, distribution and control of all drugs
  • Appropriately seeks clarifications on medication order when appropriate and ensure proper documentation

  • Identify when it is appropriate to seek patient assistance and support in the coordination and processing of prior authorizations if appropriate
  • Completes pharmacy operational requirements by organizing and directing technicians' work flow; verifying their preparation and labeling of pharmaceuticals and verifying order entries
  • Trains, supervises and directs workflow of pharmacy technicians as assigned to ensure optimal pharmacy operations
  • Complies with state and federal drug laws as regulated by the state Board of Pharmacy and the Drug Enforcement Administration by maintaining records for controlled substances; removing outdated and damaged drugs from pharmacy inventory; supervising the work results of support personnel; maintaining current registration; studying existing and new legislation; anticipating legislation; advising management on needed actions and transferring prescriptions.
  •  Inventories, orders, and maintains supply of drugs, chemicals, and other pharmaceutical stock.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of pharmacy’s policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates ability to function as a team member in performance improvement review activities.
  • Demonstrates ability to set priorities, work independently and cooperatively with others internally and externally.
  • Maintains competence required for current job position and demonstrates knowledge in the following areas a. safety b. pharmacy security c. medication safety d. disease specific e. patient confidentiality f. hazardous substances g. disaster/fire/emergency h. medication errors.
  • Operates cash registers to accept payment from customers.
  • Receives and store incoming supplies, verify quantities against invoices, and inform supervisors of stock needs and shortages.
  • Maintains competencies and certifications necessary for administering injections.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by appropriate by Pharmacy Leadership.
  • Understands and assists Pharmacist In Charge with all aspects of 340B program management, implementation, processes, auditing and training.

  • Able to communicate (verbal and written) clearly and effectively with other health care team members including nurses, pharmacists, technicians, social workers and prescribing providers.
  • Driven to provide excellent patient care and build a successful pharmacy practice
  • Ability to be flexible with hours



Minimum Qualifications

  • BS Pharmacy Degree or a Doctor Pharmacy Degree
  • Minimum 2 years of pharmacy experience including knowledge of current health care pharmacy practices; or any combination of education and experience, which provide an equivalent the required knowledge, skills, and abilities


Preferred Qualifications or Experience:

  • Experience working in HIV and/or Mental Health Specialty Pharmacy field
  • Have advanced HIV knowledge or be willing to be self-driven in becoming an HIV specialist
  • AAHIVM or other HIV expert certification (or willingness to obtain during tenure)
  • Experience working in a 340B Pharmacy or 340B contract Pharmacy
  • Experience with PioneerRX software


License/Licensure:

  • Active Georgia Pharmacist license in good standing


Physical/ Mental Requirements

  • Adequate range of motion and mobility required
  • May require lifting/carrying moderate loads (40lbs)
  • Must be physically able to operate the equipment used for the job
  • Sitting, standing, bending and stooping
  • Talking and the ability to express and exchange ideas by means of language
  • Hearing and the ability to perceive sound
  • Near acuity with clarity of vision at 2 feet or less required
  • Ability to read, record or type data quickly and accurately
  • Ability to collect and analyze data and verbal information to reach logical conclusions
  • Ability to determine the time, place and sequence of operations or actions required
  • May be required to stand for long periods of time (4-8 hours)
  • May be required to handle a heavy work volume


Environmental/ Working Conditions

  • Working long hours between breaks or meals may be required
  • Ability to appropriately cope with stress
  • May be exposed to noise of varying intensities
  • Constant contact with co-workers


Equipment Requirements

Ability to use fax, telephone, copy machine, computer, calculator, balance and automated dispensing machine

  • Awareness of the possible exposure to hazardous and/or biological materials
  • Ability to appropriately handle hazardous and/or biological materials


Basic Functions

  • Regular attendance is required to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this position
  • Maintains the performance levels that support the mission and philosophy of PIHC Pharmacy of providing exceptional care and satisfaction
  • Employee must maintain confidentiality of patient and employee information, as well as PIHC Pharmacy proprietary information at all times.
  • Attends mandatory staff meetings and company sponsored events
