QUALIFICATIONS:
· Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
· Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting, preferably in an educational or public sector
- Experience with accounting software and spreadsheet tools (Excel, Google Sheets)
- Knowledge of governmental accounting standards and fund accounting

JOB SUMMARY: The School District Accountant is responsible for assisting with the financial operations and accounting functions of Post Falls School District. This includes maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial reports, account reconciliations, and ensuring compliance with state, federal, and local regulations. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and experience working with budgets and financial statements in an educational environment.
JOB RELATED FUNCTIONS:
Directed activities shall include but are not limited to the following:
- General Accounting:
- Prepare, review, and maintain accurate financial records for the district
- Reconcile general ledger and bank accounts
- Post journal entries and ensure proper coding of financial transactions
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes
- Monitor district budgets, track expenditures, and assist schools/departments with budget oversight
- Oversee fixed asset tracking for all district property
- Financial Reporting:
- Prepare and submit required financial reporting to various internal and external stakeholders, including grant reports, Idaho State reporting, sales taxes, and district transparency reporting
- Assist with the preparation of the annual budget
- Ensure compliance with reporting requirements set by governmental agencies
- Audit, Compliance, and Internal Controls:
- Provide documentation and reports to auditors during the district’s audit processes
- Ensure that all financial activities comply with district policies, local, state, and federal regulations
- Help maintain internal controls to safeguard district assets and ensure accurate financial reporting
- Collaboration, Training, and Customer Service:
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure smooth financial operations
- Provide guidance, training, and support to school-based staff regarding financial processes and procedures

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Full-time position working 9.25 hours Monday through Thursday. One Friday each month we work an 8-hour day in addition to our Monday through Thursday schedule.
- Occasional overtime may be required during peak reporting periods
- Work is primarily performed in an office setting, with occasional visits to district schools or departments

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This position shall be considered in all respects “employment at will.” The employment period (work year) and other descriptions and terms set forth in this job description shall not create property right in the employee and such are set forth only to advise the employee of when and what type of services will be required by the District so long as employment continues.
An employee working in this position shall at all times be subject to the direction of the Superintendent and their designee(s) and at all times shall be subject to the rules, regulations and policies of the District as established by the Board of Trustees. Each employee shall be held responsible for having knowledge of said school district rules, regulations and policies which are in writing and made available to the employee at the building principal’s office, the District Office and at PFSD.com.
The employment period (work year) shall be set by the Superintendent or their designee(s). The salary shall be determined each year by the Board of Trustees on recommendation of the Superintendent.
EVALUATION
Performance of this job will be evaluated periodically by the immediate supervisor in accordance with District policy.
Salary : $50,232 - $65,540
