Pharmacy Technician
Seymour Johnson AFB, NC
Position Duties and Responsibilities:
- Reads, interprets, fills, documents, and dispenses prescriptions according to established guidelines and policy after pharmacist review.
- Perform pharmaceutical dispensing duties including filling new outpatient prescriptions, refilling prescriptions, and entering orders into databases.
- Identifies drug therapeutic problems and alerts the pharmacist to the possible need for clinical intervention.
- Counsel patients on appropriate drug use and adverse reactions.
- Performs restricted controlled drug inventories as an authorized and designated pharmacy technician
- Perform quality improvement duties including performing drug storage inspection, reviewing expired supplies, and producing error and workload reports and documentation.
- Performs monthly inspections of clinics
- Inventories and replenishes Pyxis units stored in multiple areas throughout clinics
- Perform supply process duties including placing new orders, stocking/restocking shelves, inventory maintenance, and producing not in stock reports.
- Removes expired or damaged stock from shelves, clinics, and medication return bins following established procedures for their proper disposition.
- Trains personnel on proper guidelines, procedures, and tasks.
- Provide coverage on designated Training Days and/or Family Days in support of operations.
- Performs routine housekeeping duties to keep work area and equipment in clean condition.
- Performs daily maintenance and minor repairs on pharmacy equipment after appropriate training
- Operates pharmacy systems to include MHS Genesis, NEXIA, Pharmacist, Pyxis, & QFlow.
- Monitors refrigerator temperatures daily or as assigned within the pharmacy
- Complies with HIPAA/DHA standards.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Certificate.
- Graduate from a formal pharmacy technician program accredited by the American Society of
- Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) or a formal pharmacy technician program (i.e., technical, hospital, or retail-based program) or a formal medical services training program of the United States Military.
- Certified by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB).
- One year of experience as a pharmacy technician after graduation.
- Must be a US Citizen.
