Potters Industries in Canby, OR is seeking qualified candidates for our Furnace / Grinding Operator’s position. We are looking for candidates that set themselves apart from their peers in their quest to learn and be successful while meeting production goals in a “Safety First” environment.
Compensation and Benefits :
New Hourly Rate!
Base Pay Starting at - $24.11 per hour plus $1.50 per hour night premium
This position is for day shift – 7 : 00 PM to 7 : 00 AM
Schedule : 12 Hours Shift – (4 days on / 3 days off) / (3 days on / 4 days off)

Essential Duties & Responsibilities :
Performs cullet pile dressing and loads cullet into the plant shredder system;
Removes contamination revealed in cullet to prevent equipment plug-up and quality issues - reports significant issues to management or lead operator;
Operates the front-end loader in a safe and efficient manner; performs shift checks on loader and re-fueling as required;
Knowledge of the raw material processing flow and be able to trouble shoot problems as they occur;
Operates the forklift in a safe and efficient manner; performs shift checks on as required;
Inspects VSIMs and performs wear part changeouts as needed;
Performs quality checks on raw material production, logging analyses, and taking action when there is a issue;
Monitors and coordinates bulk dust truck / trailer loading - working with Leadman and management ;
Conduct Rate Checks and Gradation Checks on sifting equipment;
Inspects boots, hoses, etc., and changes as needed to prevent dust and material leaks;
Performs routine visual inspections of equipment to ensure proper operation;
Builds screens for sifters and changes screens as needed;
Takes RM tank readings and operates sifting equipment to maintain proper RM levels to support the furnace operations;
Maintains accurate logs and electronically documents cullet / grinding related data.
Routinely monitors environmental conditions in the plant and takes appropriate investigative & corrective actions as needed. Consistently ensures compliance to environmental permits and Good Neighbor principles by monitoring baghouse emissions and other potential leak sources of glass dust;
Assists furnace operator as required to help achieve departmental goals;
Assist maintenance on maintenance activities in the Grinding Dept;
Troubleshoot or diagnose equipment issues in the Grinding Dept;
Monitors tank levels of grains tanks and wet cullet tank;
Perform minor maintenance and greasing operations on the plant dryer, mills and front end loader;
Operates the sweeper in a safe and efficient manner; performs shift checks on as required;
Monitors dryer operations and gas rates to ensure the process is operating efficiently ;
Performs Gas Safety Checks on the Furnaces and Dryer;
Performs and records in process checks of coarse, medium, and fines grains / takes appropriate corrective action when a non conformance is found;
Performs appropriate shift change comunication to ensure the the operation continously operates safe and efficiently;
Clean magnets as required;
Operates within the grinding department in a manner intended to meet goals in safety, environment, quality, production and cost control.;
Supports lead operator, supervisor, maintenance, and plant personal as team member;
Completes assigned housekeeping duties;
Participates in plant-wide HSE, quality and productivity initiatives;
Operates in compliance with all health, safety and environmental rules and regulations;
Understands that safe work practices is a condition of employment and is actively engaged in activities such as hazard ID’s and assisting in updating work procedures;
Participates on the Safety Committee on a voluntary rotating basis;
Performs other duties assigned by their manager as needed.
Job Qualifications / Requirements : Education :
High School Diploma / GED required
Post High School, Technical School or College a plus
Experience :
Minimum of One year experience working in an Industrial or Manufacturing Environment required
Minimum of One year of operational experience with production machinery / equipment required
Minimum of One year of forklift operations required, forklift certification preferred
Skills & Knowledge
Have knowledge of and ability to use computers for tasks such as email and data entry
Must have strong work ethics
Able to work and contribute in a Team Environment
Ability to follow both verbal and written instructions
Working Conditions :
Work in a manufacturing plant environment, primarily in a glass manufacturing setting with high ambient temperatures.
