Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, provide a variety of instructional and support services to special education students in the enhancement of school to career transition; assist individual students with developing vocational skills and obtaining jobs; provide related liaison, independent living and employment development services.
Provide a variety of instructional and support services to special education students in the enhancement of school to career transition; assess student needs, interests and abilities to determine appropriate career goals and placement; assist students in establishing and pursuing goals. E
Assist individual students with developing vocational skills and obtaining jobs; conduct orientations; determine if students are work-ready and assist as appropriate; confer with students regarding employment opportunities, work ethics, forms, applications and vocational skill development. E
Provide career and job related advisement to assigned students; develop individual employment plans as required; assist students with completing various employment and educational packets and applications; request, process and prepare required employment paperwork as needed. E
Assist students with developing job searching skills; provide self-help training in daily living skills such as cooking, banking, budgeting, grooming, hygiene, mobility, time management and socialization as assigned; assist students with preparing resumes, cover letters and thank you letters; conduct mock interviews. E
Serve as a liaison between students, families, teachers, staff, employers and outside agencies regarding student employment opportunities, placement, progress and related activities; refer students to potential employers according to needs, interests and abilities. E
Assist students with learning and completing mobility, vocational and community tasks; adjust development functions to meet student needs and Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals and objectives as appropriate; assist students with operating computers and various job site equipment. E
Monitor student progress at work and school sites; conduct follow up, job shadowing and post employment services with employers and students in accordance with established timelines and procedures; monitor student progress and recommend raises as appropriate. E
Initiate, develop and maintain an employer base for student placement; establish and maintain contact with potential employers; solicit job openings; monitor employers and assure proper working conditions. E
Prepare and maintain a variety of records, reports and files related to students, IEP’s, resumes, time sheets, time studies, employers, vocational profiles and assigned activities; may assist in the preparation and development of informational materials such as newsletters and website features as assigned. E
Operate a variety of office equipment including a copier, fax machine, computer and assigned software; utilize a variety of adaptive equipment and devices as required; drive a vehicle to conduct work. E
Communicate with District personnel and various outside agencies to exchange information, coordinate activities and resolve issues or concerns. E
Attend and participate in IEP and other assigned meetings; attend in-services, conferences and workshops as required. E
Assist in assuring program compliance with established laws, regulation, policies and procedures. E
May administer routine first aid to students as needed; assist students with eating activities as assigned; toilet students and change soiled clothing as required. E
Perform related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to: associate's degree with course work in sociology, psychology or related field and two years experience working with disabled or at-risk students including work with vocational development.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid California Class C driver’s license.
Valid certifications provided by American Heart Association, American Red Cross or District approved provider for First Aid, Adult/Child CPR and AED. Online certifications will be accepted from these vendors as long as a hands-on skills assessment is completed. Recertification to maintain current/valid status is a condition of employment.KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
