Power/mation has an immediate career opportunity for a Buyer in our St. Paul office. This individual will purchase items at favorable pricing consistent with quality, quantity, item, and specification requirements. Maintains optimum inventory levels of products for all assigned vendors.
KEY RESULTS AREAS:
- Purchases requisitioned and computer generated requirements of products and services using creative buying/negotiating strategies consistent with the designated quality, quantity requirements and contractual policies of authorized suppliers to maximize profit potential.
- Evaluates inventory and manages levels, order policies, and release quantities to ensure component availability and optimum inventory levels. Reviews and resolves discrepant supplier invoices for price, terms, and quantities.
- Schedules purchased product deliveries and expedites deliveries to ensure material availability and proper inventory levels.
- Builds professional relationships with the qualified supplier base by the use of progressive purchasing techniques which include professional contacts, trade publications, exhibits, and other means available. Maintains a current file on suppliers and materials in conjunction with product and departmental responsibilities.
- Assists in providing accurate pricing information on a timely basis to support the quoting activity of the Company, as required.
- Negotiates disposition of substandard supplier materials and advises the supplier of the reason for rejection, cost of returning and if the product is to be replaced or returned for credit.
- Communicates with operations and inside/outside sales personnel to keep them informed on accurate delivery schedules, material lead-times and other pertinent information required for customer and stock orders.
- Participates in meetings as necessary to resolve problem situations or plan for future changes. Recommends, develops, and implements or participates in such projects which will facilitate the achievement of the Purchasing Department, other departments, and Company goals and objectives.
- Develop strategies that will lead to improvement in supplier performance based on Quality and Power/mation policy and procedure requirements.
- Uses personal computer to analyze, resolve, and communicate supplier and inventory statistical information.
- Updates and maintains database based on knowledge of computer software, distribution industry, and Power/mation.
- Other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalent. Two to Five years of purchasing experience preferably in a distribution industry or high volume environment. Proficiency in personal computer usage with knowledge in Excel and Microsoft Word.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Written and verbal communications skills to accurately communicate with suppliers and Company personnel to facilitate problem solving, and to communicate the status of orders.
- Organizational skills to process purchases efficiently and ensure follow up when necessary.
- Detail oriented to ensure accuracy of orders.
- Ability to learn and implement the principles of inventory control.
- Ability to handle multiple and changing priorities.
