The Recreation Program Manager is responsible for developing fitness/recreational programming for youth and adults including athletic leagues, summer camps and vacation day camps. They manage the daily operations of the staff and services related to delivering programming, while maintaining the highest level of safety and customer service.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Coordinate, market, and oversee daily operation of all youth and adult fitness/recreational programs. 2. Exercise discretion and independent judgment in providing leadership and supervision to all aquatic staff. 3. Ensure aquatic programming growth and contribute to the marketing efforts of the center and aquatics programs both within the center and the community. 4. Respond to member feedback with a high level of professionalism, demonstrate and provide customer service standards for all associates, and intervene with service recovery if conflicts and/or issues occur. 5. Oversee aquatic programs and provide a schedule of pool activities for members. 6. Ensure that pools and surrounding areas are clean, safe and well maintained. 7. Ensure that the pool, exercise equipment and emergency equipment is maintained and organized. 8. Plan in-service workshops and certifications for instructors to support the maintenance of CEC’s required to keep certifications current. 9. Encourage employee professional growth through training, supervision, empowerment and feedback.10. Provide regular feedback, write and conduct annual performance reviews.11. Conduct regularly scheduled staff meetings.12. Assist with department work schedules and timecards.13. Responsible for hiring and training all recreation associates and contractors as needed. 14. Participate in management meetings and all-team meetings.15. Have the ability to perform all the duties outlined in the Recreation Associate job description as needed.16. Be proficient in necessary components of the core business software.17. Have a complete knowledge of the center, staff, services, fees and hours of operation.18. Assist with development of department operating and capital budgets annually.19. Demonstrate complete knowledge of emergency and safety procedures including the use of facility paging system and confidence in calling EMS.20. Must meet all safety requirements and certifications necessary to perform job duties (i.e., basic water rescue, infant CPR, etc.)21. Work Manager on Duty shifts as assigned.22. Work towards meeting departmental and organizational goals.23. Develop program content and write recreation program schedule to reflect the needs of the members. 24. Contribute marketing ideas and determine pricing strategy as it relates to the promotion of the recreation programs.25. Record and maintain all reports and paperwork in accordance with company policy and all local health department regulations and guidelines, including but not limited to, attendance records, medical logs, checklists, incident and accident reports, personnel lists, safety plan, medical plan and fire safety plan. 26. Respond to any member issues related to service recovery and/or general program and/or instructor feedback in a timely manner and in coordination with management.27. Conduct and participate in many sports with the ability to teach members and guests of all fitness levels.28. Communicate with all participants and guardians, contractors and team members to ensure proper placement in programs, and to secure appropriate documents and medical releases as required.29. Ensure timely set up of gymnasium (and other areas as designated) with appropriate equipment as needed for programming. 30. Oversee work schedules for all recreation associates to ensure appropriate staffing levels are maintained for administration of all programs and services as required.31. Present a positive image of good health and fitness through a positive attitude and a healthy role model for the team and members.32. Responsible for the upkeep of all equipment to include preventative maintenance, servicing and purchasing in accordance with Power Wellness purchasing department policies.33. Maintain friendly, well trained and customer service-oriented staff, and inter-department relationships.
Qualifications: • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred. • Bachelor’s degree in Fitness/Recreation or related field required. • Minimum of 2-3 year’s work-related experience in a recreational or fitness environment. • Must be sports-minded and have the ability to lead and play many sports/activities. • Must possess strong communication skills and the ability to work with members in a positive, service-based manner. • Spreadsheet capabilities required, and database management preferred.• Must possess excellent customer service skills. • The ability to be flexible and accommodating as it relates to scheduling of programs, working outdoors, standing for long periods of time and working in a noisy environment. • The ability to manage multiple projects with high level of organizational skills and efficiency.• Responding to Emergencies (RTE) certification required.• CPR/AED and First Aid certifications required. Current lifeguard certification preferred.
