The Medical Laboratory Technician plays a vital role in the hospital laboratory, serving as a liaison between the patient and the medical team. This individual collects blood specimens, urine, and other biological samples from both inpatients and outpatients under general supervision. Adhering to prescribed aseptic techniques, these samples are then sent for clinical and diagnostic laboratory testing.
As a Clinical Specimen Collector, one must be able to handle problem-solving regarding appropriate specimen collection, handling, delivery of specimens to the main laboratory for analysis, test order and specimen information entry in LIS, and perform incidental clerical, cleaning and supply duties. The Clinical Specimen Collector works under the supervision of the Laboratory Supervisor/General Specialist, and Laboratory Site Director.
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Successful completion of accredited Phlebotomy certification program
- Registered or eligible with NPA/NCA/ASPT/AMT/ASCP
