2025 Summer School Teacher Information
Summer School is important for our students who need extended support in order to successfully transition to the next grade level or to graduate. We are in search of dedicated teachers to work with our summer school students. For the Summer School 2025 program, please note the following:
- Elementary Summer School will be a half-day only program with hub transportation from June 16 - July 10. Staff report 8:15 am-1:00 pm. Students report 8:30 am - 12:30 pm.
- Project Graduation (HS only) will be held June 9 - June 18 to build on instruction in the 2024-2025 school year and access multiple testing opportunities. There is no transportation.
- Secondary Summer School for credit recovery will be a face-to-face model with hub transportation from June 16 - July 10. Staff report 8:15 am -1:00 pm. Teachers will provide student-specific content, including virtual content support from Virtual Virginia and the specialists. Students will be required to recover all missed content for their course.
- Job sharing may be used to meet the needs of students and staff.
The Elementary Summer School will be held at Powhatan Elementary for grades PreK-5. It will be four weeks (three or four days per week, except July 4th week).
- PreK- Grade 5 – June 16-July 10
- Week 1: June 16-18 (June 19 off for Juneteenth Holiday)
- Week 2: June 23 -26
- Week 3: June 30 - July 2 (July 3 off for Independence Day Holiday)
- Week 4: July 7 - 10
The Secondary Summer School for grades 6-12 will be held at Powhatan Middle School. It will contain 3 terms. Teachers may apply for any, or all, terms with our greatest needs in Term 2.

Summer School will be a ½ day for elementary and secondary students. Elementary, middle, and high school students will report from 8:30 am - 12:30 pm.
By accepting a summer school position, you are making the commitment to work for the entire session, plus the equivalent of two teacher workdays. If interested in job sharing and securing a colleague, please denote that on the summer school application. Teachers will work up to a total of 15 days depending on the assigned term/course and enrollment numbers.
Employee Information
The daily employment agreement for elementary is 4.75 hours per day for teachers (8:15 am- 1:00 pm) on instructional days, and for one teacher workdays (elementary) and one teacher workdays and up to an additional five hours for training (secondary) as scheduled by the summer school coordinators.

Salary
- Teacher/Librarian/Online/Nurse: $35/hour
- Instructional Assistant/Clinic Attendant: $17.50/hour
Project Graduation
Teachers are making a commitment based on the content area. There will be two, two-hour sessions each day.
