What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Camp Unit Leader (School Aged) position at Pozez JCC of Northern Virginia?
Sunrise Day Camp--Greater Washington is seeking an enthusiastic and qualified individual to serve as a Unit Supervisor for our school aged campers (grades 1-2 and 3-4) at our day camp located in Northern Virginia. Unit leaders are key members of the camp administrative team, working to ensure that all children have a safe, healthy, and fun summer camp experience. Ideal candidates will be organized, passionate about working with elementary school children, and have experience working with teens, as supervising counselors is a key element of this role. Unit leaders will work closely as a team to provide supervisor coverage at all areas of camp, pitching in where needed and working to continuously improve camp systems for the benefit of all stakeholders.
Sunrise Day Camp--Greater Washington is a program of the Pozez JCC of Northern Virginia and a member of the Sunrise Association, whose mission is to bring back the joys of childhood to children with cancer and their siblings world-wide. This mission is achieved through the creation and oversight of welcoming, inclusive Summer Day Camps, Year-Round Programs and In-Hospital Recreational Activities, all offered free of charge. Qualifications:
- At least 25 years of age and/or have a bachelor’s degree in a child related field
- Have 3-5 years experience in working with school aged children
- Experience working at camp
- Willingness to commute to our Fairfax, VA camp ground
- Exceptional interpersonal skills
- Experience working with children with special needs
- Experience managing large groups of children and staff
- Experience managing multiple problems/situations at once
- Commitment to working collaboratively with others
- Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing needs of campers
- Possess a good sense of humor, a passion for working with children, and knowledge and experience in working with children with unique physical and social-emotional needs
Essential Position Duties:
- Serve as member of the Sunrise Day Camp--Greater Washington leadership team
- Work with Camp Director both in advance of and during camp to set the tone for staff and campers
- Provide leadership, guidance, supervision, and motivation to Unit Staff, and Campers
- Serve as a role model and motivator to all staff
- Contribute to the creation of Staff Development Program
- Communicated regularly with Camp Director and Assistant Camp Director
- Communicate with parents
