Job Summary
The Environmental Health and Safety Manager is responsible for overseeing EHS practices and processes in our manufacturing and warehousing operations. This role requires a hands-on approach, with administrative and management responsibilities.
This position will be based at our facility in Rome, GA, and will report to the local Plant Manager with a dotted line to the regional EHS Director.
Main Responsibilities
- Compliance and Regulatory Management
- Develop and implement programs that ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations from federal, state, and local authorities.
- EHS Leadership and Training
- Lead local Behavior Based Safety implementation efforts.
- Mentor others to support EHS initiatives and promote safe work activities.
- Develop and implement an EHS training plan to meet or exceed applicable state and federal requirements.
- Risk Management and Compliance Reporting
- Conduct risk assessments and develop strategies to mitigate potential hazards.
- Oversee the proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials and waste.
- Implement waste reduction initiatives to minimize environmental impact.
- Conduct environmental and safety compliance inspections and compile/report data to state and federal agencies.
- Emergency Response and Contingency Planning
- Ensure and maintain site emergency response and contingency plans.
- Participate in and serve as the point person for all OSHA and EPA inspections, providing inspectors with appropriate documents and identifying safety measures.
- Performance Improvement and Metrics
- Develop and communicate an EHS Scorecard to drive performance improvements.
- Participate in EHS monthly meetings with site and corporate personnel as requested.
- Leadership and Representation
- Serve as the local representative on the Safety Center of Excellence (COE).
- Serve as the local representative on the Green Team.
Requirements and Qualifications
- A four-year degree in EHS Management, EHS Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or similar field.
- A minimum of 3 years' experience in leading Environmental, Health and Safety within a manufacturing facility.
- Direct experience developing, implementing, and managing a Behavior Based Safety Program.
- Experience with an Environmental, Health & Safety Management system such as VelocityEHS.
- Experience leading safety committees.
- Experience developing and delivering EHS training.
- Experience with Hazardous Waste procedures, local and state regulations (Georgia experience preferred but not required).
- Experience with compliance reporting – Stormwater, emissions, RCRA.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or similar industry recognized certification preferred, but not required.
