Position Summary:
Associates in the Inventory Specialist position are responsible for keeping the printing presses, laminators, slitters, and converting machines stocked with materials so they can produce quality flexible packaging materials on time in accordance with specific work instructions and applicable safety and quality assurance procedures. The Inventory Specialist will be responsible for completing cycle counts and inventory accuracy. Additionally, the Inventory Specialist will also learn the shipping and receiving functions to be able to fill in for the Materials Coordinator when needed. In the event of absence, these job responsibilities will be covered by the employee in the “Materials Leader” position.
Responsibilities and Duties:

- Checks all tools and equipment at the beginning and end of each shift to ensure good housekeeping is maintained, documents housekeeping as required, and contacts Maintenance whenever equipment is not running properly. Completes preventative maintenance on machinery and equipment as assigned and assists Maintenance with repairs.
- Clocks in and out of system as required by department and accurately records own time in the system.
- Performs daily forklift inspection and documents findings on the “Daily Forklift Inspection Checklist”.
- Carefully operates forklifts and other equipment in a safe manner to assure safety for everyone and avoid damage to materials, equipment and building assets Any “near miss” or actual damage must be reported immediately to the Shift Leader or Materials Leader.
- Works proactively and with a sense of urgency to ensure that all machines within the facility are kept stocked with materials in support of the production schedule as well as properly returning and documenting materials to the warehouse when required. Alerts Warehouse Coordinator or Shift Leader immediately when materials need to be transferred from outside warehouse locations, or scheduled materials have not yet been received. Minimizing machine down time due to lack of materials is a key goal of this position.
- Labels all materials and accurately accounts for and documents all material movements to maintain our inventory and location accuracy.
- Load hazardous waste totes onto transporter truck. Verify correct quantity loaded is written on the Hazardous Waste Manifest. Sign and date Manifest; give Transporter copy to driver. Forward Generator copy and Land Disposal Form to QA and Procurement Leader.
- Per the daily Cycle Count Schedule, performs and audits cycle counts and location transfer adjustments. Also, complete “non-film” inventory count sheet on Mondays/Thursdays.
- Recycle and adjust QA request by end-of-shift and properly band and stage material in recycle area.
- Performs Incoming Quality film inspections, insures material documentation and inputs data into the inventory management system.
- Wraps, bands, labels and secures materials to pallets for safe movement of materials.
- Assists with monthly physical inventory both on and offsite locations.
- Ensures that all responsibilities and functions performed are in accordance with company and quality procedures as set forth in the Personnel Handbook and the Quality Manual. Participates in quality programs and stays updated on changes to the Quality Manual.
- Supports the company emphasis on teamwork and cooperation to achieve our goals by performing other duties as assigned including working in other departments from time to time and helping with periodic cleanup issues.
- The employee receives initial training within six months of being assigned to this position and annually thereafter. The site-specific emergency contingency plan is reviewed with the employee, which includes the identification of hazardous waste, container management, preparing/signing waste manifests, spill notification, spill response, and evacuation. The material handler’s main task is moving the hazardous waste containers.
- Generates improvement ideas and embraces improvement projects to better the business.
- Participates in 6S initiatives and Kaizen events as required.
- Serves as backup to the Material Coordinator. Assists with daily shipping and receiving as needed.
Performance Requirements:
- Adherence and alignment to PPC's Safety Culture and objective of Zero Safety Incidents. Adherence to GMP and food safety standards, with no repeat violations.
- Complete 90 days from date of hire without more than 5 incomplete cycle counts, and every subsequent quarter thereafter.
- Achieve no more than 2 instances of incomplete disposition requests with 100% accuracy in adjustments in Radius in the first 90 days, and every subsequent quarter thereafter.
- Adhere to PPC’s attendance policy as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
- Completion of assigned Housekeeping duties. Must work with teammates/off shifts to ensure forklift watering is getting done. Provide proper care to the lifts that results in zero damage to the batteries or lifts themselves, materials, equipment and building assets.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Detail-orientation required for completing required paperwork and information system’s inputs with a high degree of accuracy.
- Previous material handling experience, forklift certification (reach truck), and mechanical aptitude/experience is highly preferred.
- Previous inventory experience is highly preferred.
- Associate’s degree in Supply Chain field is highly preferred.
- Job experience in an industrial production environment with the related safety training is preferred.
- Able to read and understand production schedule and accept verbal direction to successfully complete procedures and assigned tasks.
- Capable of performing mathematical calculations, properly using tape measures and micrometers, and performing material inspection procedures.
- Flexibility in work assignments and priorities is required to address the dynamic needs of our customers and shifts in production requirements.
- Good verbal and written communication skills required, and proven experience with effective teams and continuous improvement methods strongly preferred.
