Materials Engineer, Glass

As the Materials Glass Engineer, you will support development of new glasses as well as glass strengthening and bending process improvement. You will also perform both physical and chemical tests on products and development materials. This is an onsite role at our Huntsville, AL. facility. You will report to the Materials Technology Manager.

Key Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot problems related to glass strengthening and bending related production.
• Operate various laboratory equipment. Work with analytical instruments such as TGA, DSC, XRF, FTIR, ICP-MS.
• Record data on manual or computerized systems.
• Interpret and verbalize test results for communication.
• Inform management regarding non- conforming material or products.
• Ensure laboratory safety procedures are followed.
• Participate in 5S activities
• Comply with Health, Safety, and Environmental requirements
• Glass lab melt / preparation
• Prepare glass sample preparation and conduct chemical characterization
• Conduct physical property testing of glass samples, i.e. hardness, light transmittance, stress profile, viscosity.
  
  

Qualifications

• Must be a US Person
• Bachelor's Degree in Materials Science or Ceramic Engineering. Master's is ideal.
• Coursework in Glass and/or Ceramics..
• 1 years of academic or industrial experience in a laboratory.
• Previous industrial experience in product development is helpful.
• Working knowledge of characterization equipment like UV-Vis-NIR spectrophotometer, FTIR, ICP-MS, XRF, Mechanical Testing etc., will be advantageous.
