About the Role
Do you have a passion for math and a talent for connecting with students? Are you fluent in Spanish and eager to make a difference in a diverse, middle school community? If so, we want you to join our team at JHS 292 Margaret S. Douglas! As a bilingual math tutor, you’ll partner in the classroom with 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade math teachers to deliver personalized small-group instruction that empowers students to grow their skills, boost their confidence, and achieve academic success.
What You’ll Do:
- Work closely with teachers and school leaders to deliver targeted, culturally responsive support in math.
- Engage small groups of students, helping them overcome challenges and achieve their full potential.
- Foster a positive learning environment that encourages curiosity and resilience.
- Be a valued part of a team dedicated to transforming educational outcomes in underserved communities.
Schedule:
- Days: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday
- Time: 9 AM to 12 PM
- Duration: November 19th to March 6th (excluding holidays and school conferences)
- Key Dates Off:
- November 28-29 (Thanksgiving)
- December 24-January 1 (Winter Recess)
- January 29 (Lunar New Year)
- February 17-21 (Midwinter Recess)
What We’re Looking For:
- Experience: Prior experience tutoring or teaching middle school math.
- Bilingual Skills: Fluent in English and Spanish, with the ability to provide academic support in both languages.
- Team Player: Collaborative spirit and a desire to work closely with teachers and students.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written skills to connect effectively with diverse audiences.
- Passion: A commitment to educational equity and social justice for minority and low-income students.
- Availability: Must be able to work the specified schedule consistently.
