What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechanical Commissioning Engineer (L-2) position at Praetorian Power Protection LLC?
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented L-2 Mechanical Commissioning Technician to join our growing commissioning team for data center projects. This role involves hands-on mechanical system testing, troubleshooting, documentation, and support during the commissioning phase of mission-critical facilities. You will work under the direction of senior commissioning staff and collaborate with construction, engineering, and operations teams to ensure high-performance delivery of all mechanical systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform functional performance testing of HVAC and other mechanical systems, including but not limited to
- Chillers, CRAC/CRAH units, cooling towers, pumps, valves, and piping systems
- Hydronic, airside, and refrigerant systems
- Execute mechanical commissioning scripts, review MOPs/SOPs, and support integrated systems testing (IST)
- Review and validate mechanical drawings, submittals, and equipment O&M manuals
- Work closely with controls technicians to verify BAS/BMS integration and functionality
- Assist in identifying system issues or deficiencies and support resolution through documentation and escalation
- Maintain accurate commissioning logs, redline drawings, and test documentation
- Support Level 1 technicians and help mentor junior staff when appropriate
- Ensure all work is performed in accordance with safety procedures and site protocols

Qualification
- 2-4 years of mechanical commissioning experience (data center or mission-critical environments required)
- Strong understanding of mechanical system operation, sequence of operations, and associated control systems
- Familiarity with commissioning standards and documentation (ASHRAE, ACG, NEBB, or similar)
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and control schematics
- Excellent troubleshooting skills and a hands-on, solution-focused attitude
- Ability to work in a fast-paced construction environment with multiple stakeholders
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and PDF markup tools (e.g., Bluebeam)
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification (preferred
