Summary:
The part-time Floater provides assistance by working in various roles throughout the childcare center. They provide positive daily contact with children in a childcare center environment and will perform a variety of tasks to meet the children's daily care needs. They care for children from ages six weeks to 6 years. Daily tasks may include diapering, feeding, holding, singing, dancing, reading, playing, assisting with boarding/exiting buses, and cleaning.
Minimum Requirements:
Experience: Zero to 6 months of related experience
Education: High School Diploma or GED
Interpersonal Skills: A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Work involves extensive personal contact with others and/or can be of a personal or sensitive nature. Work may involve motivating or influencing others. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others.
Knowledge:
o Knowledge of child growth and development as well as developmentally appropriate practices for children ages birth to 6 years.
o Knowledge of the social, emotional and creative needs of young children.
o Knowledge of basic computer use (emails, Word, internet).
o Knowledge of basic cleaning and sanitation.
Skills:
o Monitoring - Monitoring/Assessing performance of yourself, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.
o Service Orientation - Actively looking for ways to help people.
o Social Perceptiveness - Being aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do.
o Active Listening - Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
