Summary:
The kitchen assistant will aid in the overall function of the kitchen. The majority of duties will assist with meal preparation, delivering meals to Seniors/Elders, maintain a clean and sanitary environment, and work effectively with both supervisor and cooks.
Minimum Requirements:
Driving: Must have a valid Kansas driver's license and be insurable with the Nation's insurance
Experience:
Minimum: Up to six months of applicable experience in a similar position. A record of satisfactory attendance and performance in all prior and current employment.
Preferred: One to two years of applicable experience. Valid food safety certification.
Education: High school diploma or GED
Interpersonal Skills: Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essentials elements of the job. Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the PBPN for purposes of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, or soliciting cooperation.
Knowledge: Food Production: Knowledge of techniques and equipment preparation of food, storage/handling and food safety techniques. Knowledge of making traditional Potawatomi food.
Customer and Personal Service: Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction. English & Potawatomi Language: Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar. Able to understand some Potawatomi from Elders. Public Safety and Security: Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective food safety operations for the protection of people, data, property, and the Nation.
Skills: Judgment and Decision Making: Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one. Operations Monitoring: Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly. Interpersonal skills: Remains open to others' ideas and exhibits a willingness to try new processes. Active Listening and giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times. Critical Thinking: Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems. Active Learning: Understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making. Dependable: Arrive to work on time, follows instructions, responds positively to direction and feedback. Delivers meals to Elders in the required timeframe. Organized: Uses time efficiently and keeps all records up to date and accurate. Keeps a clean and safe workspace. Mathematical: Knowledge of mathematics and simple formulas.
Abilities: Time Management: Must be available to work the assigned schedule. Ability to be reliable, punctual, and dependable in order to meet the needs of the department and Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation. Selective Attention: Ability to work with frequent interruptions. Change Management: Ability to adapt to change e.g., work environment, unexpected events, and procedures. Comprehension: Ability to learn quickly, listen and understand and convey information to others.
