Position Description:
Prairie City School District #4 is a K-12 school with 145 students. Prairie City School District takes great pride in its small community school and is looking for an educator with the skills to work collaboratively with the administration, staff, and community in enriching the educational system in our school district.
General Duties:
Responsible for the instruction of students eligible for Special Education and within the parameters of the Federal and State laws, District philosophy, curriculum, policy, and procedure.
Job Requirements:
- Have knowledge of teaching principles/techniques, district philosophy, curriculum, policy and procedures governing Special Education.
- Skill in assessing, planning and implementing programs of study for students with disabilities that will contribute to their development as mature, able and responsible men and women.
- Ability to apply effective principles of teaching to direct and motivate students with disabilities.
- Responsible for the learning environment of assigned students; supervises assigned Instructional Assistants and volunteers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintains an orderly and attractive instructional area.
- Maintains an instructional area free from hazard to the health and safety of the students.
- Demonstrates, by performance, the ability to plan properly for instructional process.
- Develops plans for the assessment of individual student abilities and achievement.
- Establishes and applies standards of student achievement which are based on educational research, administrative guidelines, community expectations, and the individual abilities of students.
- Provides instruction, which, by varied techniques, maintains students’ interest.
- Implement individual plans (IEP/504).
- Works with team members to accomplish mutually agreed upon goals.
- Provides instructions, which will meet the Individual Education Plans of all students.
- Communicates effectively with students regarding their educational progress.
- Communicates effectively with parents, classroom teachers and other professionals regarding a child’s educational and/or behavioral progress.
- Implements procedures for gathering diagnostic data.
- Interprets diagnostic data to identify the needs and concerns necessary to develop the individual education plan for the student.
- Utilizes diagnostic data to establish instructional objectives and to plan the program required to implement the objectives and measure the outcome.
- Participates fully in staff training provided by the District.
- Is knowledgeable to current techniques or trends in special education.
- Develops standards and expectations of student behavior and applies them fairly and consistently to all students.
- Applies all standards of behavior developed by the District fairly and consistently to all students.
- Seeks the assistance of his/her approach to students and shows a willingness to work with students beyond the limited scope of the classroom.
- Demonstrates knowledge and skill in specific requirements of the grade, area of subject field of his/her assignment.
- Communicates effectively with colleagues regarding the educational process and its effect on individual students.
- Establishes and maintains a good working relationship with all members of the educational community.
- Maintains complete and accurate records as required by law, District policy, and administrative regulations.
- Trains and supervises Instructional Assistants.
- Designs instruction, monitors and provides feedback for Instructional Assistants.
- Manages time to complete required special education paperwork.
- Attends and participates in faculty meetings.
- Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
- Maintains integrity of confidential information relating to a student, family, and district.
- Performs such other tasks, assigned by the superintendent related to the teaching assignment.
- Develops and maintains department budget.
- Regularly reports to the superintendent on changes in special education law and procedures to keep the district in compliance and to facilitate services to special needs students.
- Regularly reports to the superintendent on issues and concerns related to special education and ESSA.
About the Area and Community:
The city of Prairie City is located in the upper end of the John Day Valley in beautiful Grant County, Oregon. The community consists of a population around 900 people and is bordered to the south by the scenic Strawberry Mountains and adjacent to the John Day River. Prairie City’s community is dotted with cattle ranches and is in the middle of some of the greatest hunting, fishing, and outdoor recreation areas in Eastern Oregon.
Salary Range: $33,920 – $64,786
