Job Summary
This full-time (0.9 status or 36 hours/week) position performs duties requiring responsible judgment and discretion in assisting nursing personnel. This position also provides appropriate direct and indirect patient care through provision of clerical and/or direct patient contact tasks as a Care Technician. Functions under the direction of RN or LPN as part of patient care team.
Responsibilities include:
• Provides excellent customer service while greeting, welcoming patients, escorting patients to their rooms, answering the telephone and patient call system and routing calls and requests to the appropriate person promptly and courteously.
• Prepares, maintains, and submits all newborn birth statistical data to the SD EVRSS (South Dakota Electronic Vital Records and Screening System).
• As a notary, prepares paternity affidavits and submits to the State for reimbursement.
• Performs secretarial duties including preparing maternal and newborn charts, transcribing physician orders, statistical data collection, updating prenatal histories and maintaining current call schedules.
• Files fetal monitor strips and prepares for permanent storage by Health Information Dept.
• Assists with cleaning and maintenance of equipment.
• Stocks all Labor-Delivery-Recovery-Postpartum rooms (LDRP's) with necessary supplies, linens, and equipment and keeps room ready for admits.
• Orders supplies for the nursing station.
• Performs direct and indirect patient care as delegated by RNs and LPNs.
• Acts as unit transporter delivering orders, supplies, specimens and mail to appropriate departments.
• Cleans instruments and equipment used for births and circumcisions.
• Inventories and requests infant formula purchase for all PLHS departments.
• Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications
High School diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Strong interpersonal skills required. Empathetic attitude toward the childbearing experience. Ability to deal tactfully with co-workers, physicians, patients, family and friends, visitors, and the general public.
