Position Summary
The TRIO Upward Bound Program is federally funded by the Department of Education that provides services designed to improve academic, career, and personal skills to prepare first-generation (neither parent has a four-year degree) or low-income high school students to be successful in high school and college.

Reporting and Supervisory Relationships
Reports to the Director, TRIO Upward Bound.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Provide academic and support services to TRIO Upward Bound participants


  • Monitor student progress and provide individualized coaching, interventions, or referrals as appropriate.

  • Assist in the completion of FAFSA and scholarship opportunities

  • Designs and implementations of 6-week Summer Enrichment Academy.

  • Lead post-secondary education preparation activities for program participants

  • Coordinate, schedule, and supervise student participation in college fairs/open houses, information sessions, campus visits, field trips, and workshops.

  • Monitors and tracks successful TRIO Upward Bound Program measures and outcomes.

  • Coordinate enrichment activities, physical activities, field trips, and cultural events.

  • Communicate program activities with Upward Bound participants, Upward Bound parents/guardians, and Upward Bound staff.

  • Assist in program reporting utilizing.

  • Maintain timely and accurate records of student activities.

  • Ensure physical and electronic student files are up to date.

  • Assists with student intake and eligibility.

  • Develop relationships with Upward Bound participants, as well as their family and supporters, to provide them with the highest level of wraparound support.

  • Develop and enhance program communications and learning activities to assist student development.

  • Coordinates with Director to develop and maintain TRIO Upward Bound Program brochures and handouts to provide participants with accurate information.

  • Attends local and national workshops, seminars, meetings, and high school events to promote the TRIO Upward Bound program.

  • Ensure students receive and complete pre and post TRIO Upward Bound assessments for scheduled activities.

  • Travel for TRIO – related trips and activities with program participants involving some occasional overnights during each component and ability to travel as needed for training or conferences.

  • Work with individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds and experiences to provide resources that will support their navigation through higher education and help to ensure they know that they matter.

  • Ability to maintain accurate student records and documentation needed for grant reporting.

  • Designs, monitors, and implements TRIO Upward Bound student college bridge program

  • Enter student information into Blumen – Compansol tracking database.

  • Ensure daily attendance is conducted during the school year and summer.

  • Assist with the completion and submission of the Annual Performance Report (APR).

  • Responsible for ensuring all TRIO Upward Bound equipment is properly secured, managed, inventoried, stored, tracked, loaned, and returned according to organizational protocol.

  • Assist in the monitoring and tracking of all participating and graduating TRIO Upward Bound program participants.

  • Conduct weekly site visits to partnering schools to monitor the TRIO Upward Bound staff to ensure quality control of the rendering and implementation of TRIO Upward Bound services; in addition to providing services to TRIO Upward Bound students.

  • Flexible schedule, position may require some evenings and weekends.

  • Performs other duties, responsibilities and activities as required by supervisor and as Departmental/College needs indicate, as assigned within reason.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Valid Illinois Driver’s License required.
  • Knowledge of retention strategies in postsecondary/higher education institutions and working with counseling/advising services.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Ability to effectively present information to groups of administrators, faculty, students, and the community.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret data, define problems for reporting, while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Ability to influence others on the benefits/importance of an idea or plan of action and to gain their support or commitment.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree
  • Five years of experience in designing and managing educational programs for underserved populations with three years in a supervisory or lead (leading projects, processes, and staff) capacity.

  • Experience in overcoming academic and economic obstacles to success and previous TRIO Upward Bound working experience.
  • Knowledge of recruitment strategies for postsecondary institutions and alternative education programs.


Anticipated Work Hours and Days
40 hours 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (Monday – Friday). Some weekends.

$46,656- $69,983 All candidates are hired at the mid range salary
