Overview

This position will be primarily focused on Vibration Analysis.

 

Position has accountability and responsibility for the elimination of repetitive failures and continuous improvement of plant mechanical and electrical related equipment and support systems. Focused on the application of reliability technologies, technical skills, and ingenuity required for the maintenance and repair of mechanical and electrical equipment and support systems to minimize risk of production loss or maintenance cost. This position will have a primary focus in vibration data collection, analysis, and remediation troubleshooting.  Role will serve as a support function for all plant mechanical and electrical equipment.  Such systems consisting of main boiler, turbine-generator, combustion coal residual, balance of plant, rotating equipment, ancillary support systems, electrical breakers and switchgear, motors, transformers, etc.

Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following assigned areas:

  • Collect and analyze vibration on various plant equipment (pumps, fans, compressors, gearboxes, etc…)
  • Interpret vibration data and provide analysis and insights to plant engineering, maintenance, and operations for returning equipment to acceptable vibration levels.
  • Remediate equipment imbalance through analytical troubleshooting.
  • Perform balancing on plant equipment utilizing Emerson 2140 and plant Bently Nevada 3500 systems.  Equipment to include large rotating and balance of plant equipment.
  • Identifies equipment reliability issues thru the use of predictive technologies and assists with the coordination of all related predictive and preventative maintenance and repair activities.  Coordinates with plant planners and supervisors on effected assets.
  • Conducts data collection and analysis to assess current condition of equipment and systems and coordinate corrective actions with system owners.
  • Maintains records and evaluations of the general health of all mechanical, electrical, or rotating equipment and associated systems and evaluate/implement modifications as required and approved in order to ensure budgeted capacity, availability and equivalent forced outage rates of the facility.
  • Leads or participates in any plant Root Cause Failure Analyses (RCFA) and Failure Modes Effects Analyses (FMEA) processes involving or related to mechanical and electrical equipment and systems to ensure corrective actions, repairs, and modifications are appropriate and completed in a timely manner.
  • Develop and or review the Planned Maintenance (PM) activities of mechanical, electrical, or rotating equipment and systems to ensure PMs are correctly aligned with the Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) philosophy.
  • Mentors less experienced reliability engineers and analysts.
  • Demonstrates situational leadership, environmental stewardship, and safety.
  • Regular and reliable attendance required.

Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • 2-year associates degree in a related field and/or certifications in one or more Predictive Technologies desired.
  • 5 years of experience working in an industrial environment using predictive and preventative technologies and philosophies in a reliability engineering capacity.
  • Experience would include one or more of the following: tribology, ultrasonic, infrared, Motor Circuit Analysis, or vibration analysis.
  • A primary focus in vibration analysis is desired.
  • Candidates with a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering with rotating equipment experience will be considered in lieu of vibration certifications.
  • Experience performing data collection, analysis, and condition assessment for components of large rotating equipment is desired.
  • Experience with multiple vibration monitoring technologies is preferred (Proximity probes, velometers, accelerometers, & Bently 3500 Racks)

 

 

Certification/Licensure

  • Cat I level vibration certification is required.
  • Cat II or III level vibration certification preferred.
  • Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP) desired.
  • Certified Reliability Engineer Certification (CRE) desired.
  • Certification in one or more areas of predictive maintenance technologies, i.e. tribology, vibration analysis, infrared, Motor Circuit Analysis, Ultrasound, etc., is desired.

 

Knowledge of

  • Experience with CMMS systems (Maximo preferred).
  • Microsoft Office Suite, for preparation of presentations and reports.
  • System One Vibration Software (preferred)
  • Insight CM vibration software (preferred)
  • Emerson Machinery Health Manager Software (preferred)

 

Skills, abilities, and physical requirements

  • Ability to interpret data and apply learnings towards root cause failure remediation.
  • Ability to interpret vibration data to correct equipment issues (waveforms, polar plots, shaft centerline, shaft orbits, etc…)
  • Ability to balance plant equipment utilizing data gleaned from portable vibration analyzers (Emerson 2140) and plant Bently Nevada 3500 equipment.
  • Ability to clearly communicate with co-workers, supervisors, and others.
  • Ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to read and understand operation and maintenance procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a highly organized work environment.
  • Ability to work any assigned shift and overtime, including evenings and weekends when required.
  • Ability to work unsupervised as required.
  • Ability to sit, stand, reach, stoop, and lift boxes weighing as much as 25 pounds.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Stand or walk for four to 10 hours per shift.
    • Work from elevated positions, walk or climb up and down stairways and ladders and climb on and off of equipment.
    • Performing work while bending, stooping, reaching.
    • Don and wear required safety equipment including respirators, hearing and eye protection, and protective clothing.
