Job Description
The Extension Program Specialist III will provide leadership to the planning and implementation of educational outreach programs in support of county-based staff in the area of Small Ruminant Management and Production; prepare subject matter training and educational resource materials to address the needs of limited resource clientele; and conduct applied research on small ruminant science.
This position may pay more than the salary listed above depending on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.
Responsibilities :
- Assist with Small Ruminant Management & Research, including but not limited to artificial insemination, breeding & kidding, and body condition scoring. Participates in independent and interdisciplinary applied small ruminant research and collaborates with other specialists and scientists; Observes University and CAFNR administrative policies to insure full compliance with mandated training and implementation of the institutional program for animal care and use.
- Plans, develops and implements training programs for use by county staff in the area of Small Ruminant Management & Production, forage production, agriculture business management, small acreage production, and educational programming / delivery related to Agriculture and Natural Resources to under-served and underrepresented clientele; Analyzes and interprets trends and other appropriate situational information and disseminate it for use by 1890 county personnel and committees in planning programs to meet local needs; Assists with the development of in-depth educational programs to solve significant problems and meet long-range objectives.
- Develops comprehensive model plans which address base programs, critical issues, and clientele needs; Assists with development of evaluations instruments to measure program effectiveness; Develops and provides educational documents, newsletters, fact sheets, curriculum, PowerPoint presentations, and videos, to support county agents in-depth and outreach plans; Travels to selected counties to provide technical assistance and training for agents and volunteers; Interprets and disseminates relevant educational information from current applicable research findings, demographics and economics and public policy.
- Assist with Beef Cattle Management & Research, including but not limited to artificial insemination, breeding & calving, and body condition scoring. Participates in independent and interdisciplinary applied beef cattle research and collaborates with other specialists and scientists; Observes University and CAFNR administrative policies to insure full compliance with mandated training and implementation of the institutional program for animal care and use.
- Attends headquarters staff conferences, program area conference calls, and Unit staff meetings; Attends district program planning conferences and training in support of county agents; Participates and presents at professional development conferences and meetings at the state and national level; Develops and submits grant proposals in support of program goals and objectives.
- Participates and assists in college-wide events, activities, committees and performs other duties as deemed necessary.
