What are the responsibilities and job description for the Paper Purchaser position at Pratt Industries?
Responsible for all production related purchasing or Paper.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Place orders on a timely basis for purchases of Paper.
- Be familiar with standard Paper used and research sources of Paper for highest quality, best value for money, best terms, etc.
- Manage the receipt of paper materials. Including managing of supplier shipments, which could include direction of truck drivers when necessary. Determine and direct lift drivers on sequence of unloading of trucks and inserting stock into the line.
- You will be required to work closely with the scheduler and production supervisory team to determine the proper paper purchase allocation to ensure no asset runs out of work.
- Analyze and monitor Ducker line capacity for optimization
- Establish vendor files and inventory control records.
- Maintain price records and handle discrepancies as they arise.
- Inform management of upcoming price increases, improved product availability, and economical alternatives.
- Assist with inventory counts.
- You will be included into the weekend rotation of supervisor coverage requiring some Saturday and Sunday work.
- Comply with company policies and procedures.
- Additional duties as assigned by management.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED
Two years' experience as a proven manager
Clear, concise oral and written communication skills
Candidates are PREFERRED who offer the following:
College degree
Two years' purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment
Experience in the corrugated box industry
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures and manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively with customers and employees of the company.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, volume, and net present value.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
TECHNICAL SKILLS
Computer literate
Negotiation skills
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Employee is regularly required to walk and talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Vision requirements include: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS
The performance of the Paper Purchaser will be measured as follows:
Operating standards - The employee will need to meet or exceed the Operating Standards set in the areas of quality, cost, safety, planning, customer satisfactions, supervision, efficiency, and productivity. Such standards will be set annually and communicated to the manager.
Personal growth - Each year there will be professional goals developed and agreed to by the manager and supervisor.
Employee relations – The employee will be evaluated regarding his/her behaviors associated with appropriate human interaction, respect, and communication.
Creativity – This will be evaluated by how active the employee is in participating in advancing the business through new and innovative ideas.
