Pre-Production Coordinator
Reports to Client Services Manager
Summary:
The pre-production coordinator is the liaison between project management and
production, working with production to determine how jobs should be set up and routed
through the manufacturing plant.
Duties:
- Responsible for creating and maintaining production specifications files for
cutting and print plates. - Enter all Data in BVP, and Tooling Log
- Issue PO# for all tooling orders from BVP
- Have all Tooling Repairs and/or Replacement tooling approved prior to
ordering & maintain all Tooling Repair/ Replacement Forms as written
instructions have spelled out. - Save all signed specs, documents and print cards to the proper location
spelled out in work instructions. - Will interact and communicate with project management, Designers,
tooling vendors, lithographers, production and accounting for assigned
projects.
Day to Day job responsibilities: - Follow written “Pre-production Work Instructions”
- Taking approved design specification to create nested production
specifications using Artios CAD system. - Ordering tooling per managements direction using approved suppliers.
- Approving Plate art for printability (bleed, trap, colors)
- Communicating tooling issues with vendors.
- Approve bleed and position on all Litho projects before the lithographer
prior to printing. - Manage unique customer requirements such as key lining untrimmed
labels using a mock up sample and die lines for position. - Tooling estimating – develop tooling estimates and routing direction for
project management. - Organize art transfer with vendors.
- Review High-End Flexo Prints – project manage the process with the plate
separator and production to develop High-End Flexo Print Plates. - Coordinate necessary approval through the account management teams
- Process tooling repairs
- Work on special projects as required
Skills and Experience:
Structural Design Artios CAD, Graphic Design Creative Suites (experience preferred),
Multi-Tasking ability – Professional & Fast pace environment, Clear Communication
Skills, Excel spread sheet experience needed, Word Document (little experience
required)
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance
instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and
correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees
of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Working knowledge in MS office (incl. Word, Excel and PowerPoint) Able to calculate
figures and amounts such as percentages, measurement, volume and rate.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in
written, oral, or graphic form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete
variables in standardized situations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Employee is regularly required to walk and talk and hear. The employee is frequently
required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and
arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit. Vision requirements include: close
vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to
adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet
and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and fumes or airborne particles.
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
