Position Summary:
Candidates for NDT Inspector Level 3 will possess the skills and knowledge to perform all the duties of a trainee, Level -Limited and Level 2, and can also independently inspect parts, make evaluations, perform required process tests and document results. Selected candidates as a Level 3 Inspector shall be knowledgeable in all NDT methods used by Protective Coatings and have familiarity with other NDT methods as represented in Level 3 ASNT testing. A Level 3 Inspector shall at times perform inspections on chemically treated metallic and nonmetallic parts and assemblies under fluorescent or black lighting for defects such as fissures, weld breaks, or fractures using magnetic particle inspection (MAG) and liquid penetrant inspection (FPI) processes and equipment. The Level 3 will be responsible for maintaining all NDT training, qualification, certification, and performance levels of active NDT personnel. Candidates must be self-disciplined and self-motivated individuals with strong accountability (attention to details) skills. Candidates of this position must have strong leadership qualities, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work in a team environment. A Level 3 candidate will be expected to perform a variety of tasks and supervisory roles which include but are not limited to: performing specific calibrations, tests and evaluations on production aerospace parts; perform Formal and Practical training; establish and approve written NDT procedures and work instructions; assigning and directing work. As a condition of assignment, Level 3 candidates may be expected to process product controlled under in International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and/or Export Administration Regulations (EAR). As such, these candidates may be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship, Legal Permanent Residence or protected status as a Non-Citizen National of the U.S.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Supports supervision of 10-30 employees in the NDT/MAG/Penetrant areas. Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
- Conduct or direct the training, examination and certification of personnel in the method certified.
- Establish and approve NDT procedures and other NDT related work instructions for technical adequacy and compliance to requirements.
- Maintain and review NDT personnel qualification and certification files and review performance levels of active NDT personnel.
- Examines parts under fluorescent or black lighting to detect surface defects using one of two methods: FPI (Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection) or (MAG) Magnetic Particle Inspection.
- Provide detailed information concerning processing techniques, findings, evaluation of indications and part condition/disposition recommendations.
- Actively participate and assist in, and appropriately respond to NDT system auditing (internal and external).
- Reviews NDT process Rejection Reports.
- Set up and calibrate equipment, conduct tests, and interpret, evaluate, and document inspection results.
- Will require use of personal protective equipment (PPE) during certain tasks (goggles, safety glasses, aprons, boots, gloves, hearing protection, etc) and be expected to comply with safety directives and policy.
- Will be exposed to chemicals/solvents and occasional fumes, wet/humid conditions, low-level lighting, and moderate noise level.
- Will, at times require heavy lifting or use of mechanical hoist for the aid in lifting objects.
- Work closely with inspectors and Management to complete work and prioritize tasks.
- Clean, organize and maintain work area as prescribed by supervision.
Required Skills:
- -Limited Operator, and Level 2 Inspector.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and peripheral vision. The ability to successfully pass a Jaeger eye exam with corrected or uncorrected vision.
- Familiarity of codes, standards, and specification such as NAS 410, BSS 7698 and BAERD GEN-012.
- Blueprint reading and interpretation skills pertaining to aerospace production detail parts and sub-assemblies.
- Basic mathematic skills: add, subtract, multiply and divide using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
- Ability to interpret and explain an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables, applying the mechanics of Algebra and Geometry.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Basic computer skills in MS Doc and MS Excel.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Familiarity with CAPA (Corrective Action / Preventative Action) implementation and response.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Required Experience:

Level of Education:
- A combination of college, technical school and/or experience requirements as outlined in PCI NDT Procedure PCP801-3 Qualification & Certification of NDT Personnel for meeting minimum specific training and certification requirements.

Level 2 NDT Certification and Level 3 NDT Certification from the previous employer for each NDT method practiced, is required.
Note: Prior training and experience of acquired Level 3 Inspection status must be verified and documented in writing by the previous employer or training agency. Any claimed training and experience which cannot be verified and documented shall be considered invalid, and applicant must require additional training as recommended by the Responsible Level 3. All previous training must be verified by the Responsible Level 3. Selected candidates shall be subjected to examinations administered by the Responsible Level 3 at the time of hire to verify the physical and technical qualifications of the NDT candidate. Exams will consist of a vision test, a general exam, a specification exam, and a practical examination.
