Description:
Job Summary: Complete, record, follow-up and maintain bid requests received; Act as project coordinator / assistant project manager to begin projects; Work closely with supervisor, as well as other Estimators, Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen and coworkers in other departments.
Responsibilities:
- Reads, analyzes, and interprets bids and quotes, technical procedures, and governmental (federal, state, & local) documents and regulations
- Reading and understanding the project specifications
- Attending or scheduling someone to attend the project walk thru
- Meet with owner (if private work) to review existing site conditions and document as part of the bid / estimate process
- Writes reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
- Effectively communicates with multi-level personnel as well as vendors and their representatives
- Calculates figures and amounts such as material & labor and applicable discounts; interprets percentages, margins, and mark-ups
- Receives and logs bids
- Verifies specifications or purchase requests
- Determines if we can respond to bids – deadlines / due dates are critical
- Communicates with vendor & sub-contractors on bid requirements
- Computes pricing to come up with estimated job cost and makes recommendation on suggested margins based upon market conditions or specific information pertaining to bid competition
- Prepares bid summary for manager to review and approve prior to release
- Using PDC Template, creates bid proposal for review prior to customer release
- Prepares reports on bid responses, logs results for future use
- Assists in creating / maintaining a cost log / catalog
- Works with customer base / sales leads / industry leads to acquire project opportunities for PDC
- Performs other related duties as required
- High school diploma or GED
- 1-3 years of electrical estimating experience and knowledge of estimating software
- Self-motivated, goal-oriented quality driven, and capable of working without a lot of supervision
- Safety, Lock-out/Tag-out, HAZMAT, Forklift, Electrostatic Discharge, Foreign Object Damage, and Quality System knowledge
- National Electrical Code (NEC) knowledge
- Ability to read and/or understand electrical diagrams & blueprints
- Good math skills, including basic algebra
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record
- Ability to physically travel to jobsite to review projects before estimating
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate or Bachelor Degree in a related field desired
- 5 years of electrical construction or industrial construction experience
- Experience in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project a plus
- Good attendance history
- Time management experience
