Environmental Health and Safety Director Responsibilities
- Structures and leads safety and health activities in the organization to evaluate and control safety and environmental hazards.
- Serve as primary contact on all health and safety issues
- Trains various safety officers to ensure testing and calibrating of instruments are maintained.
- Initiates and plans health program in facilities / jobsites to recognize, eliminate, and control occupational health hazards and diseases.
- Develops health and safety procedures & inspection policies and procedures across all areas of the company
- Coordinates, plans, and conducts programs to educate employees about safety in the workplace.
- Inspects facilities and work areas to prescribe corrective actions to reduce the health risks.
- Evaluates facilities job site to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and promotes maintenance of a safe work environment.
- Conducts and/or oversees training in environmental compliance and the handling of hazardous materials.
- Monitors, assesses, and resolves health and safety issues in the work environment.
- Provides advice on methods and procedures to reduce occupational health risks.
- Implements/ oversees applicable occupational health and safety regulations and procedures.
- Determines measures to avoid any recurrence of accidents.
- Drafts inspection reports to document inspection findings.
- Recommends precautions and corrective actions that should be taken in response to identified hazards.
- Ensures that material safety data sheets are maintained and readily accessible when needed.
- Maintains records of discharge of or employee exposure to hazardous waste and/or pollutants, as required.
- Participate in meetings with safety officers, project managers and field personnel
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Environmental Health and Safety Director Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Safety, Occupational Safety and Health, Physical Science, Business Industrial Management or related field required
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), preferred.
- Five years of related experience, preferred
- Willingness and ability to travel to different company locations, including Michigan and New York, required
- Extensive knowledge of environmental regulations and policies.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to identify potential safety and health hazards
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficient in technology and equipment used in environmental inspections.

Pay: From $135,000.00 per year
