Asphalt Screed Operator

Screed Operator – Asphalt Crew Position Overview: We are seeking a skilled Screed Operator to join our asphalt crew. As a Screed Operator, you will be responsible for controlling and operating the screed to properly level and finish asphalt pavement. Your role is crucial in ensuring a smooth, even surface while maintaining the required thickness and slope of the asphalt as it is laid.

Key Responsibilities:

•  Operate the Screed: Set up, adjust, and operate the asphalt screed to ensure proper distribution, leveling, and compaction of the asphalt to meet project specifications.
•  Coordinate with Paver Operator: Work closely with the paver operator to ensure the asphalt is delivered at the right speed and in the proper quantity for smooth and efficient paving operations.
•  Ensure Consistent Surface Quality: Monitor the screed’s performance, adjusting the height, angle, and settings to achieve the desired smoothness, thickness, and slope of the asphalt surface.
•  Quality Control: Inspect the freshly paved surface for defects or inconsistencies and make real-time adjustments to ensure the final result meets project standards.
•  Material Management: Ensure the asphalt is evenly spread and compacted by monitoring material flow and coordinating with crew members to ensure consistency throughout the process.
•  Collaborate with Crew Members: Communicate effectively with other operators (e.g., roller operators, dump truck drivers) and foremen to coordinate the work and maintain a steady workflow.
•  Maintenance and Safety: Conduct daily checks and basic maintenance on the screed and related equipment. Report any mechanical issues or malfunctions to the supervisor immediately.
•  Adhere to Safety Protocols: Follow all safety guidelines and protocols, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), to ensure a safe work environment for all crew members.
•  Adapt to Changing Conditions: Adjust screed settings as needed based on weather conditions, material temperatures, and site-specific requirements.

Qualifications:

•  Previous experience operating an asphalt screed or other heavy equipment is preferred.
•  Strong knowledge of asphalt paving techniques and the operation of screed equipment.
•  Ability to troubleshoot and resolve minor equipment issues.
•  Strong attention to detail and quality to ensure a high standard of paving.
•  Good communication skills and ability to work well as part of a team.
•  Ability to work in varying weather conditions and extended hours as needed.
•  Valid driver’s license; CDL is a plus.
•  Commitment to safety and adherence to safety protocols.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 – 50 per week
