Dates of Internship:
June 2, 2025 - August 8, 2025. You must be available to work for the full 9 weeks
Work Hours:
Working hours vary: 40 hours per week, typically Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m
Position Overview:
Pref-Tech’s internship roles provide an opportunity for students who are currently a Senior at Del Valle High School. This internship is for those students who are interested in a career installing security integration systems. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age as of June 2, 2025.
Interns will gain practical experience in security integration to include functional understanding of low voltage systems and assisting in installation of cabling, mount equipment, install card readers, door contacts, mag locks, electrified strikes and integrated systems. You must have reliable transportation to report to our Austin office, M-F. You will ride with a team member to site locations.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
- Currently a Senior at Del Valle High School and at least 18 years of age as of June 2, 2025.
- Reliable transportation to get to our Austin Office: 3709 Promontory Point Dr., Suite 106, M-F 7am-4pm.
- Good work ethic and academic achievement.
- Willingness to take on new challenges.
- Capacity to work collaboratively.
- Ability to perform physical tasks like walking, standing, lifting 50lbs, and ascending/descending ladders and stairs of varying heights with little to no limitation.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- General knowledge of operating hand tools.
Duties and Responsibilities:
An Intern may be required to perform any of the duties and responsibilities below (including but not limited to) the following:
- Work with the on-site teams on construction sites and/or in active office spaces to get a sense of the day-to-day duties and responsibilities of the Operations department.
- Become familiar with Company processes and operational techniques through completing required in-house training.
- Opportunity to shadow team members.
- Install cabling, mount equipment, install card readers, door contacts, mag locks, electrified strikes and integrated systems.
- Functional understanding of low voltage systems, relays, principals of normally closed/normally open, series and parallel wiring.
- General understanding of Network Topology.
- Use a multi-meter to test for voltage, continuity, and resistance.
- Operate any hand tools and equipment necessary to perform all associated tasks.
- Participate in all required company events including (but not limited to) orientation, onboarding, trainings, workshops, department or companywide meetings, mentorship activities, and offsite visits as requested or required.

Position Requirements:
- Must pass a drug screening and participate in the random drug screening program
- Must pass a background check and have no felony convictions
- Must be at least 18 years of age
