Job Purpose: Performs a variety of patient care activities to assist the laboratory and providers.
Essential Functions: (Examples of Duties)
- Review advance beneficiary notice and help providers find the correct dx codes for coverage.
- Enter transfer orders into the database from external providers.
- Assist with internal laboratory reports.
- Send/receive faxes and ensure that outgoing faxes have successfully been completed.
- Performs testing and patient collecting duties per protocols/procedures including pre and post-analytic phases.
- Follow the laboratorys procedure for specimen handling, processing, test analysis, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results.
- Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratorys established performance specifications.
- Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results, and either must correct the problems or immediately notify the Administrative Laboratory Director, Laboratory Supervisor, or LIS Coordinator
- Review patient cases and assist in completing the requests.
- Follow all health and safety regulations when handling laboratory specimens.
- Performs and reports in-house lab testing.
- Ability to effectively and efficiently navigate and document in EHR.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements/Qualifications: (Describe minimum qualifications, preferred or required)
Education: Graduation from an accredited medical assisting or nursing program.
Experience: Minimum of 1 year clinical experience in an outpatient medical office using an EHR, preferred
Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of phlebotomy, and Medicare approval for diagnostic testing. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to maintain a safe work environment. Skill in phlebotomy. Skill in maintaining records and recording test results. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, staff, and the public. Ability to maintain quality control standards. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergencies. Ability to read, understand, and respond to detailed oral and written instructions. Ability to communicate clearly.
Licenses/Certifications: High School Diploma or equivalent. Medical Assisting Degree. CPR certification.
Working Conditions: Exposure to infectious hazardous materials, and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
Physical Demands: Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions. Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
