Job Details
The Operator is responsible for operating heavy equipment to excavate and backfill trenches safely. This job has been classified by Premier Underground as being Safety Sensitive and containing Safety Sensitive Functions.
Performance and Service Standards
New Project
Assists the Foreman in the preparation of a project including but not limited to requirements, project layout and upholding goals to meet project schedule.
Assists the Foreman in the confirmation of all located and marked utility lines. (Ref. 1.3.2 ss)
Coordination of Resources
Coordinates openly with Foreman for emergency equipment delivers and pick-ups. (Ref. 2.3.1.1 ss)
Carries out inspection of equipment daily and reports findings to Foreman immediately, if repairs or maintenance is needed.
Responsible for the overall condition and return of equipment after job completion. (Ref. 4.5.3.1 ss)
Project Cost Management
Seeks approval from Foreman for equipment needed immediately on the field.
Field OperationsProgress & Status
Monitors daily construction procedures to ensure that proper quality is maintained, and work is adhering to schedule.
Operation of assigned equipment to excavate for defined trenches safely.
Make fine, highly controlled muscular movements to adjust the position of a control mechanism.
Understand and comply with simple written and oral instructions given.
Safely and skillfully operates heavy equipment ranging from depths of 2’ to 13’ deep.
Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
Communicate orally with customers, clients or the public in face-to-face, one-on-one settings
Field Operations
Ensures cleanliness of excavations and inspects for proper hazardous conditions before and after daily task.
Assess the need for trench protection and install as necessary to protect from cave-ins.
Ensures all equipment are procured in a time efficient manner.
Inspects daily excavation and adjacent area as well as protective systems inspection and submits findings to Foreman. (Ref. 4.2.1 ss)
Monitors crew during work inside trenches to evaluate safety practices and immediately correcting those necessary.
Ensures all equipment are in good condition before and after any departure from work site and reports findings to Foreman immediately, if repairs or maintenance is needed. (Ref. 4.1.1 ss)
Field Operations
Help provide information of daily trench logs; equipment logs to Foreman.
Help provide information of T&M work done daily and sends directly to Foreman. (Ref. 3.4.3.2 ss)
Qualifications
Qualifications
2 years’ experience and knowledge operating a Backhoe (CAT & CASE)
Knowledge and understanding of Spotter-Operator sign language
Training in trench safety and confined space
Able to read and comprehend prints for electric, telco and special systems from either utility company or private enterprise
General: walk, stand, sit, use hands to finger, handle power tools (sharpshooter, jumping jack), reach with hands and arms, climb in/out of equipment and shovel
Good communication skills
Lifting: up to 50 pounds
Exposure to elements: all outdoor elements (i.e. wind, rain, snow, heat, cold)
Handling of Dangerous Equipment: power tools
Capability/ability to work around construction materials including primer glue, W-40, gas/diesel, etc.
Scheduled Work hours:
Summer Hours: 5:00 am – 1:30 pm
Winter Hours: 7:00 am – 3:30 pm
Other time as required by project schedule
AZ Driver’s License (CDL preferred)
Successful completion of pre-employment drug test
Must have experience working with contract documents such as contract drawings, subcontracts, contract addendums, specifications and change orders
Ability to prioritize and organize; work well under stress
Hands on experience with electronic equipment and software (GPS, Smart Phones, etc.)
Self-motivated – driven to achieve results
Work with team members maintaining a positive and supportive attitude
High school diploma or equivalent (GED) preferred
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience required or a combination of education and experience
Salary : $26 - $34
