SUMMARY: The Construction Manager (CM) - Civil is responsible for the scheduling, supervision, training and direction of Premise Foreman and laborers and outside subcontractors on Premise, Inc. projects. The CM orders materials and ensures that projects are properly planned and set up for success. This includes detailed Scope of Work (SOW) and job books with the required materials and proper technical expertise on site for the job. The CM monitors and ensures all assigned sites stay on track with milestones and remain on or under budget while meeting established project goals. Success is measured on crew moral, productivity and meeting budget targets.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Reads and understands SOW to prepare work schedules for each project
  • Ensures the correct site materials, tools, equipment and manpower are scheduled and delivered per the project plan
  • Communicates with the crews regarding upcoming project plan details
  • Monitors assigned projects to ensure the budget targets, milestones and completion goals are achieved. Reviews the daily reports, performs site visits and communicates with the crews for updates. Identifies and resolves issues and construction complications as needed.
  • Supports and assists Foreman while they are on site, including problem solving the daily/weekly/monthly contingencies and taking appropriate actions to remediate these contingencies.
  • Identifies and reports observations which affect the project schedule, budget, quality, safety and completion, especially SOW changes (potential change orders)
  • Communicates with Operations Manager, Project Manager or Customer for information on SOW, budget and timeline
  • Manages, reviews and approves daily time and reporting from assigned Foreman and Subcontractors
  • Follows and enforces safety rules and regulations and ensures that standards are met. Collaborates with safety and quality assurance teams
  • Leads job site crews in the Foreman’s absence.
  • Assists with construction on an exception basis and as directed by the Operations Manager
  • Leads, develops and manages assigned staff and perform supervisory duties in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws including: interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, coaching and mentoring, addressing complaints and resolving problems.

  • In addition to the above, other required qualifications for this role are:
  1. 3-5 years previous experience as a Foreman or Construction Manager in the Civil field
    • Proven excellent organizational, problem solving, analytical and attention to detail skills
    • Proven ability to manage multiple projects, crews, job sites and customers
    • Proven ability to focus on daily construction processes as well as look ahead to anticipate and plan for upcoming work
    • Proven ability to read and interpret construction drawings, schematics and SOW
    • Possess basic financial understanding of profit, budget, margin, invoicing, and revenue recognition
    • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Able to communicate effectively, clearly and succinctly through spoken and written forms with peers, management, and customers. Able to effectively communicate with people at all levels and from various backgrounds.
    • Ability to learn and use Premise provided software
    • Working knowledge and understanding of Civil construction work, safety processes and OSHA requirements
    • Possess or have the ability to obtain certifications/licenses in OSHA 10/30, First Aid/CPR, RF Awareness, Blood Borne Pathogens, DOT Health Card (Company provides training to assist in obtaining/renewing required certifications)
    • Possess a valid driver’s license and ability to maintain a clean driving record
  • Preferred qualifications are:
  1. Commercial Driver’s License
  2. Proficient with Microsoft Office products

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to, stand, sit, walk, lift, squat, push, pull, climb stairs, ladders and possibly towers, hear, see, reach, grasp and use hands and fingers to operate a computer key board, telephone, power tools, and equipment. The employee must have the ability to occasionally lift more than 50 lbs.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee will work both inside in a normal indoor office environment and outside at remote job sites. The employee may be exposed to extreme weather conditions, including heat and cold and wet or humid. The employee may work in high places, and/or work around moving mechanical parts, vehicles and other equipment. The employee may also work in areas where the noise volume is loud and constant. The employee must have the ability to work overtime and to travel to remote job sites approximately 30 – 50% of their work week which will include overnight stays.
