Job Description:
We are seeking a knowledgeable, organized, and highly motivated Beer and Liquor Buyer to oversee the selection, purchasing, and inventory management of our beer, spirits, and ready-to-drink product lines. The ideal candidate is passionate about the beverage alcohol industry and thrives in a fast-paced retail environment. This role is essential to driving sales, maintaining product variety, and keeping our offerings in tune with current market trends and customer preferences.
Key Responsibilities:
- Source, order, and manage a wide range of beer and liquor inventory, including local, craft, national, and international brands.
- Maintain strong relationships with distributors, vendors, breweries, and distilleries to negotiate pricing, terms, and promotional opportunities.
- Analyze sales data, customer feedback, and seasonal trends to ensure an optimal product mix and high-performing inventory.
- Monitor stock levels and rotate inventory to prevent overstocking or out-of-stock situations.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, new product releases, and seasonal changes to keep product offerings fresh and competitive.
- Coordinate with store management and marketing teams to plan in-store tastings, product launches, and promotional events.
- Ensure all products meet legal and regulatory requirements regarding labeling, age restrictions, and alcohol sales compliance.
- Work closely with the receiving team to verify deliveries, resolve discrepancies, and maintain accurate records of all incoming inventory.
- Conduct regular inventory audits and contribute to monthly and quarterly financial reporting.
- Provide training and support to sales floor staff regarding new products, tasting notes, and upselling techniques.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in purchasing, buying, or inventory management within the alcohol beverage industry preferred.
- Strong knowledge of beer, spirits, and the broader alcohol market, including emerging trends and regional specialties.
- Excellent negotiation and vendor relationship management skills.
- Strong analytical abilities and comfort with sales data and inventory metrics.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Proficient with inventory management systems and POS software; Excel skills a plus.
- Must be at least 21 years of age and eligible to work with alcohol products in the state of Maryland.
- Ability to lift and move cases of product (up to 40 lbs) and work on your feet for extended periods.
