Summary

Supervises and coordinates activities of workers concerned with running the Shelling Plant Shift.  Responsible for maintaining production levels on a specified shift for all products.  Ensures shift meets our customer and financial commitments.  Comply with programs in safety, cost reduction, process improvement, employee development, quality control, and environmental compliance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Ensure compliance with policies and programs.
  • Works to continually improve the quality and productivity of work within the shift.
  • Keeps accurate records
  • Communicate with the Shelling about an out-of-specification product.
  • Communicate with the maintenance team about any equipment issues.
  • Is responsible for the training of the shift’s personnel.
  • Coordinates daily with other shift supervisors to maintain effective flow of information - including concerns with material flow, machine problems, scheduling and quality issues.
  • Implement improvements in equipment utilization, cycle time reductions, and overall planning to insure timely and efficient production.
  • Directs production activities to assure safety and environmental compliance.
  • Transfers information from shift to shift and to management.
  • Troubleshoots process problems, and recommends and implements solutions.
  • Directs production activities to assure adherence to plant quality system.
  • Communicates effectively with subordinates, peers, and customers.
  • Provide employee training to develop employee skills.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervises 9 to 12 employees on the shift in the Shelling Plant. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
