Strategic Communications Manager, Unification Management Office

Position Purpose:

The Strategic Communications Manager will develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy to support the ongoing unification of the Interim Unified Agency. This includes both internal and external communications aligned with the unification program and change management strategies. The role ensures clear, transparent, and timely communication across multiple stakeholders, helping to foster engagement, trust, and alignment throughout the transition process.

 

Roles and Responsibilities:

  1. Work closely with the Unification Management Office Change Manager and Program Manager to design and execute a communications strategy that aligns with the unification program and change management plans.
  2. Establish internal communication tools and channels to provide staff, leadership, and key stakeholders with regular updates.
  3. Develop accurate and impactful communications.
  4. Support and coach leadership in delivering clear, transparent, and empathetic communications during times of uncertainty or change.
  5. Ensure messaging is consistent, timely, and tailored to different internal and external audiences.
  6. Develop communication strategies that support employee engagement, organizational culture shifts, and stakeholder alignment.
  7. Leverage digital tools, social media, and technology to enhance engagement and information sharing. 
  8. Work with the Communications Department of the Interim Unified Agency to coordinate communications efforts and to align with overall communications branding and policies.
  9. Other duties as assigned.

 

Essential Position Requirements:

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Organizational Development, or a related field.
  • Master’s degree preferred.

Experience

  • 7 years of experience in strategic communications, public relations, or corporate communications.
  • Experience leading communications for large-scale organizational change, mergers & acquisitions, or complex transitions.
  • Working with senior-level executives on organizational communications.
  • Previous work with stakeholder engagement, crisis communications, and internal/external messaging in complex organizations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working in a faith-based or non-profit organization helpful.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in change communications and crisis management strategies.
  • Ability to develop strategic-level communication plans and execute effectively.
  • Strong ability to craft and deliver compelling, clear, and audience-specific messaging.
  • Ability to develop and execute multi-channel communication plans (internal emails, newsletters, press releases, social media, presentations, etc.).
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, persuasion, and influence skills.
  • Ability to synthesize complex information and communicate it effectively to different audiences.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Knowledge of public relations, media relations, and reputation management.
  • Competency in communication tools such as Microsoft Office Suite, social media platforms, website content management systems, and email marketing tools.
  • Able to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively.

Helpful Skills

  • Knowledge of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and the work of the Interim Unified Agency.
  • Ability to speak one or more languages other than English very helpful.
  • Familiarity with best practices in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) communications.

  • Have a deep understanding and commitment to cultural and racial ethnic inclusiveness.  Values diverse groups, ethnicities, genders, communities, cultural constituencies and points of view.  Able to relate well to people from all walks of life and of varying theological perspectives.

Physical Requirements

  • Sensory and physical requirements include the ability to communicate verbally in person and through technology.  
  • Able to read and understand written materials.  
  • Ability to communicate in a manner suitable to a church office environment. 
  • This is a full-time position that may require occasional travel and extended work hours during key unification milestones.
  • This is largely a sedentary position that may require occasional filing and lifting up to 15 pounds.  Requires the ability to see, hear, speak, type, write, walk, stand, bend and lift.
