About the Role: The Senior Staff Attorney will serve in an important role by performing the following tasks:
- As requested by POAH staff and/or the General Counsel, provide legal counsel and expert and easy to understand technical advice to POAH staff members across all departments and affiliates, covering a variety of areas relating to the acquisition, rehabilitation, ownership and management of affordable multifamily rental housing;
- Draft and review a wide variety of contracts, including transactional documentation as well as ordinary course contracting (e.g., lease amendments, service agreements, access agreements, property and corporate level vendor contracts for POAH Communities.
- Support the General Counsel relative to a wide variety of corporate and other matters ranging from daily operations to issues of governance and public policy;
- Close corporate lines of credits and amendments and handle property-related closings as assigned by the General Counsel;
- Manage the negotiation of purchase and sale or disposition agreements for real estate and partnership interest matters with input from the General Counsel, and provide ongoing legal support on acquisition matters on an as-needed basis;
- Manage litigation-related matters under the supervision of the General Counsel;
- Assist with management of transactional and other outside counsel relationships, including supporting POAH colleagues in processing and managing invoices and tracking against project budgets;
- Research federal, state and local regulatory questions for POAH and affiliates;
- Develop policies and resources for the Legal team SharePoint site as requested by the General Counsel;
- Assist in supervising the Associate Staff Attorney, Senior Paralegal and, from time to time, interns and clerks; and
- Support the General Counsel relative to a wide variety of corporate and other matters.
The Senior Staff Attorney's responsibilities also include:
- Inform the POAH Legal Department and other staff of work process issues, industry trends and ideas to make POAH more effective as a real estate development owner/operator.
- Demonstrate a high level of business and legal expertise, analytical ability, real estate software knowledge, personal energy, ability to multi-task and deal with stress, and show superb communication skills, patience and an outgoing personality.
- Complete other tasks assigned by the General Counsel.
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
- B.A. or B.S. required; J.D. required.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a practicing attorney. Experience with affordable housing, real estate law, contracts, administrative and/or general corporate law.
- Expert proficiency in use of computers including Word, Outlook, Excel, SharePoint and Teams.

The salary range for this role is $130,000 - $150,000 pending the candidate and their experience.
