- Rate: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour depending on experience.
Position Summary
The Community Support Specialist (CSS) works with a team of providers to support transition-aged foster youth who are living independently in the community. The CSS works directly with parenting or pregnant participants in the Maryland Foster Care and /or Juvenile Services system ages 16-21 with a specific focus on educating and assessing the participants life skills in early child development, financial literacy, community living, safety and housing.
Essential Responsibilities
- Act as Parent Trainer by providing primary support of parenting goals and feedback of participant progress
- Teach participants relevant life skills in their living environment on a consistent weekly basis
- Administer and evaluate knowledge of skills assessments
- Establish and build professional rapport with external resources
- Orient participants into the program
- Work directly with the participants in identified challenging areas and actively respond/be available to participants as they work towards successful completion of documented goals
- Document and enter records into various electronic systems
- Provide crisis-intervention for situations requiring immediate attention
Qualifications
- Clearances. State Police/FBI clearance per state regulation; Child and Adult Abuse Registry clearance
- Valid drivers license and current auto insurance.
- Reliable transportation for frequent travel to various community locations for client services and home visits.
Working Conditions
- Physical Demands. Requires moderate to high level of physical activity including; sitting, standing, walking lifting and carrying as required.
- Environmental Factors. Indoors/Outdoors: school, community, residence, office.
- Working Hours. A non-traditional work schedule as defined by service needs and crisis “on call”.
