Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Youth Worker to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with youth and possess the necessary skills to support and empower young individuals in various developmental areas.
General: Provides direct care and supervision to children in residence and supervises direct care staff. Responsible for promoting and role modeling among fellow staff members the Mission, Core Values as well as the Philosophy on Reduction of the Use of Restraints in the facility.
Supervisor: Administrator
Qualifications:
1) Must have a High School Diploma/GED
2) Must be at least 21 years of age
3) Must possess a valid Texas driver’s license or ID
4) Must pass a criminal history check
5) Must be able to demonstrate good role modeling skills
6) Must be certified in CPR/basic First Aid/PIAB
7) Maintain 50 hours of training during each calendar year
8) MED Tech certified is a plus
Specific Duties and Skills:
- Supervise children in the residence, using mature judgment and communicating a sense of caring and nurturing.
- Ensures that staff are properly ratio for clients.
- Ensures that documentation and reports of clients are submitted to the case manager.
- Maintain timesheets, and days off for direct staff.
- Demonstrate awareness that children we serve have suffered trauma in their lives, consistently working to provide a strength-based, trauma informed system of care.
- Provides feedback and documentation of the serious incidents and restraints of residents at Prestige Care Home, including participation in Post Event Debriefings and Formal Administrative Debriefings of these events.
- Develop positive relationships with children, including demonstrating skills such as how to talk with children, how to listen, and how to work with children with whom there is a negative countertransference.
- Consistently follow the Emergency Behavior Intervention policy adopted by Prestige Care Home, specifically making every effort to avoid the use of restraints adopting the motto that “The Best Restraint is No Restraint.” The childcare worker will support the goals of the facility in reducing and striving to eliminate the use of restraints.
- Consistently follow the behavioral system adopted by Prestige Care Home.
- Attend treatment meetings.
- Demonstrate ability to use natural and logical consequences.
- Identify and avoid power struggles. Power struggles often result from a demand for compliance or an effort by staff to “gain control.” Body language and tone of voice communicate a message as much as words. Avoid “you vs. me” conflict. Power struggles often result from staff’s goals that children follow the rules vs. individualization of treatment.
- Help children develop self-help skills appropriate to their age and ability, including coping, communication, de-escalation and self-soothing skills they require to be successful in managing their behavior. Teach the child by working the child one-on-one, by example, and by directing them to accomplish each task.
- Set limits in ways that maximize the child’s sense of control and involvement.
- Assist children with their schoolwork, such as participation in school activities, tutoring, etc.
- Document both positive and negative behaviors for each child through recording in daily progress notes.
- Take part in both planning and implementation of productive recreational activities for the residents.
- Assist in meal preparation and serving as assigned.
- Guide each resident toward improved behaviors as targeted by their treatment plans and goals.
- Performed other related childcare tasks as assigned.
- Assist in transportation of children/Assist in meal prep.
- Assist in dissemination of medication to child.
