We are rapidly expanding our team in North and South Carolina and looking for motivated, experienced individuals! You must be able to commute within a 50 mile radius of Charlotte, NC.
General Description
The Pipe/Utility Foreman supervises field operations for Water/Sewer and storm projects. The Pipe/Utility Foreman will directly supervise and coordinate activities of the Utility crew and may also engage in the trade work of the employees being supervised.
Key Duties
- Demonstrates safety 1st
- Directly supervise pipe/utility crew
- Have experience installing water, sewer, and storm drain systems
- Reports on work to Utility Superintendent
- Experienced on all types of equipment to perform duties
- Knowledgeable in the areas of Pipe percentages, Types of pipe and material, Elevations and grade, soil classifications
- Reads, understands, and interprets drawings and specifications
- Reports on time and materials, daily or weekly as required
- Monitors the implementation of safety orientations, safety indoctrination, provides coaching for improvement. Also OSHA 10 compliance
- Able to work day or night shifts as required, including weekends as needed
- Communicate professionally with everyone on site, including but not limited to supervisors, teammates, contractors, clients, and vendor partners
- Understand production and quantity requirements
- Work with Soil Tech and Survey Scheduling in coordination with Pipe Superintendent
- Perform incidental work items and duties included within other crafts
Qualification Requirements

Education and Experience. This position typically is not an entry-level job, as it requires demonstrable previous experience as a Pipe/Utility Foreman.
- A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is preferred.
- Must be able to understand work directions and communicate effectively with management and fellow employees.
- Three (3) to five (5) years of Pipe/Utility Foreman or related experience is preferred for this position.
Physical Demands. The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met by a Pipe/Utility Foreman to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Constant physical effort, including standing, is required during a regular work shift of at least eight hours per day. Employee must be able to stand for extended periods of time, and to stoop, bend, and crouch as required to perform Key Duties.
- Ability to lift, on a frequent basis, at least 50 pounds personally, and up to 150 pounds with assistance.
- Maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities of the construction site, including the activities of other employees and contractors, the operation of stationary equipment, and the movement of mobile equipment.
- Frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions.
- Must be able to climb on and off heavy mobile equipment safely.
- Capable of being certified to enter confined spaces, including climbing into and out of excavations up to 20 feet in depth, using ladders or crawling, as required
Work Environment. The work environment characteristics described below are representative of those that a Pipe/Utility Foreman encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
- Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Work environment periodically exposes the employees to high levels of noise, grease, and dust that is typically associated with a construction project.
- Employee regularly works near heavy equipment and moving machinery.
- Work may involve a variety of substances commonly found on construction sites or equipment shop such as form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel and ready mixed concrete.
