Paralegal Immigration Practice group
Preti Flaherty, one of New England’s largest law firms with offices in ME, NH, MA, and Washington, D.C., is seeking an experienced Paralegal to join the firm’s dynamic and growing Immigration practice group.This position is based in our newly renovated headquarters in downtown Portland, ME, and offers an engaging roster of work on behalf of Preti’s regional and national clients.
The ideal candidate has experience in
•Assisting to and reporting to the immigration Attorney regarding immigration cases from inception to completion.
•Managing the caseload from intake through processing and filing.
•Preparing and file petitions and applications and RFE responses for submission to US government agencies and consular posts for nonimmigrant (L, TN, H-1B, H-2B, O, E) and immigrant status (PERM, I-130, EB1A, I-140, I-485, N-400) for foreign nationals.
•Draft petition support letters, indexed table of contents, reference letters, personal statements, and other necessary documents to support immigration petitions. Organizing petition packets for attorney review and filing.
•Gathering application and petition information from external parties.
•Conducting legal research on immigration law under attorney’s supervision.
•Keeping clients apprised of the progress of their cases.
•Maintaining hard copy files and entering data into an immigration case management system. Updating case statues diligently in our case management system and case tracking system.
•Responding to immigration inquiries in a timely manner and adhering to submission deadlines.
•Work collaboratively with legal administrative assistants and paralegals in day-to-day work on cases.
Education and Experience Required
•Bachelor's Degree or post-secondary program with law-related coursework.
•4 years as a business immigration paralegal working with high-volume business immigration clients.
•Must have experience preparing all aspects of petitions from start to finish in the following categories: H-2B, H-1B, L-1, O-1, E-2, TN, PERM, and family-based immigration. Experience with RFE responses and EB-1A and EB-1B is preferable.
•Ability to collaborate with immigration attorneys and regional paralegal managers.
•Experience in preparing petition packages for review and filling.
•Superior writing, time-management, organizational and detail-oriented skills.
•Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, prioritize workload and meet deadlines.
•Ability to manage immigration inquiries, gather required information, and keep clients informed of progress.
•Proficiency in legal terminology and immigration database software, such as Docketwise, LawLogix and eIMMIGRATION.
•Exceptional recordkeeping and communication skills. Exceptional follow-up skills to track case progress, deadlines, and client communications effectively.
